Netflix issue - how do I stop her using someone else's account

DD was watching unsuitable stuff on out Netflix account. I changed our settings so you need a pin to access >15 years. Just found out she's been using a friend's account to watch instead. Parenting fails aside ( attempting to get my DD to behave responsibly or obey my rules is a whole other topic) is there any way to prevent this? Obviously I can speak to the family concerned no ask them to change their password but there's nothing to stop them from sharing the new password too.

Remove laptop from her room or whatever device she is watching it on until she can be trusted?

If you get a bit techy you can ban certain websites through your router. Do you know how to change your wifi password? If so log in and see what options you have there, and see if you can do it. Or google it along with the brandnamd of your router and hopefully it will give you a step by step guide.

We have two smart TVs, two laptops, four phones, one ipad. I would need to lock them all away somewhere which would be slightly unfair to the other four members of the household,

Anyone got any techie ideas that may be more practical?

Some instructions on blocking websites at the router and some more detailed instructions for the TPLink router - it would mean no-one could watch Netflix but would make the point quite effectively, unless she has a data allowance on her phone?

No she doesn't. So blocking Netflix at the router would be an option but it seems a bit unfair on the rest of us, particularly the other two kids who haven't done anything wrong.

And then when I 'reinstate' it how do i know it's not happening again, short of sitting next to her 24 hours a day. Fed up tbh. Thought I'd sorted it.

Surely you can remove her access to electronics in her bedroom without it affecting other members of the household though? She's unlikely to be accessing unsuitable material on smart TVs in family areas because you would see her. If you are going out then you could disable the internet (someone techie could advise on this - maybe switch off the router and don't give her the password). Perhaps if she is the only DC who is not allowed to take her phone/iPad/laptop into her room then she will learn her lesson about responsible and appropriate internet use?

How old is she

She is 13. I am not always in the house. So yes I could ensure that there were no electronics in her room when I am in the house by confiscating her phone and keeping track of the laptop / Ipad. Then switch off the Wifi somehow every time I go out. then switch it back on again when I get in.

At some point though I assume I give her back her access to the internet, once I've decided she's learnt her lesson/can be trusted. then just wondering how I monitor whether it happens again,

I suppose I was hoping for a 'block' feature to save me all the hassle of the above.

I know your pain - me and my next door neighbours have had to join forces as our teenagers were swapping wifi passwords so if I stopped my dcs wifi access he would just use theirs!!!! I suggest telling her you can access the Internet log (whether you can or not is neither here nor there - it worked with mine!) and tell her there will be harsh consequences if you find Netflix on there or find another suitable punishment. Does she have an iPhone? If so I can show you how to put restrictions on it so that all she can do is phone and text. Makes it like an old fashioned phone and worked wonders with mine. Hates it when I lock down his phone!

You can assign fixed IP addresses to each device, which will then allow you to control which sites each device can access. However, you'll need to find the instructions for your particular router - here's some info for the Virgin router.

It will be difficult for you to come up with a solution she can't hack, though - some of my network/security specialist friends have done fiendish things with their home network to outwit teens but for the rest of us it will always be a challenge.

Something like Norton Family might also work - but it doesn't mention SmartTVs. And you've still got the problem of wanting to allow access to Netflix, just not to the adult content. You can set a PIN for adult content - but that's no use if she's using her friend's account.

If the other family hand over their password again, and you catch her, I'd be tempted to lock them out of their account by deliberately entering the password wrongly. However, this is probably illegal (if justified in my view - it's not up to them what content you deem suitable for your daughter).

If you have a sky router you can block internet access to one device at certain times and ban websites for that one device
