I'm in the library at college and I really wish they didnt have internet access cos MN is the BEST when you are finishing off and essay and revising for an exam. I've read all sort of interesting stuff this morning but nothing to do with what I should be revising or writing about (MN not being big on Church Leadership Practice or Missionary Pastoral Support!)

I have to work in college as I dont currently have a computer at home, so cant check MN at home either.

Urrgh, back to work I suppose .....

I'm doing a BA in theology at ICC in Glasgow. I'm in 2nd year adn loving it, though this term has been a bit more of a grind for me. But I have JUST finished for the term - had my one exam this morning and already jhanded in my esssay due at 4pmtoday yesterday!

I have 3 weeks off after next week but have a lot to do and I want to try to do some reading for next term in the hold otherwise I am going to be snowed under come April 9th!

Its so cool being a student though, I love it. I'm enjoying it far more this time round than I did before!

Oh God me too - I'm supposed to be planning my critical review but instead I'm on here

Molesworth · 09/03/2007 12:11

Wow, WELL DONE on completing your essay and doing your exam!

I am enjoying being a student too - I didn't go to university when I should have done (I'm 38 now) and have always kicked myself for not doing so, but I think I'm enjoying it far more now than I would have done when I was 18.

(btw semiotics is the study of how reality is represented and meanings are constructed through signs - I'm doing sociology/cultural studies)

harrisey · 28/03/2007 19:16

pc - what is Dukka? Not something I've ever heard of.

I was was very virtuous today, as I went to the college library and got out some books for one of my courses for next term. I'm doing 4 courses next term adn they are all quite challenging, so I thought I had better try to get ahead with some of the reading for the worst (well, probably most interesting but certainly most complicated) one! We go back to college on Easter Tues (10 April) so have a lot of time to read (I hope!)

Dukka- one of the jewels of Buddhism- 'all life is suffering'

coz even if you're happy, it could be causing suffering elsewhere (eg- new skirt= slave wages in Indonesia for example), and one always exists in the knowledge that as nothing is permanent, then the happiness os short lived, and therefore that is suffering

Although one doesn't really exist in Buddhism. LOL

harrisey · 29/03/2007 11:43

are good for you but also hard to cope with while you are studying!

Last term mine was predestination and freewill. If Calvinhad still been alive he wouldnt have been by the time I was finished asking my questions, I can tell you!! Next term we have a course on 'The Meaning of Salvation' and I am expecting more of the same!!

Now, Dukkha is one thing- my last essay was Nietsche(sp) [hmm}, not best peased with him LOL!

We've loads fo the in deppth Eastern Philosophy next year- I'll be glad of some Theology to balance it!

harrisey · 11/04/2007 23:01

Can you believe I went back to college today? The kids are still on holiday but no, there we were, bouncing our heads off the meaning of the atonement in a boiling hot classroom in full sun! Spent the afternoon in the library (and in the coffee room with a friend) and actually, I really enjoyed being back. Nice to see everyone again and get some good chat, and though the course today seems very intense, it is also intensely interesting.
Full day of classes tomorrow though. 9.15 - 5! Its a long day, and my brain is still gearing up for it all!
