Baby carrier - 6 month old baby

Hi,
Not sure if I'm posting in the right place but hoping you lovely people can help me. I'm going to centre parcs in may and dd will be 6 months and I'd like a baby carrier. She's a nosey little so and so so would either need to face out or on my back - she's also a chunk (91st centile) so needs to be easy to carry and it would be great if it was easy to adjust as both me and my hubby will use it!

I have the ergobaby 360 and it's a really good carrier, can do back carry, forward facing, inwards and side carry with it. I still use it with my 21 month old DD.

I'd recommend looking for a local sling library though, you can go along and try out different ones, and could even hire one to take to centre parks.

I use the baby bjorn with my 6 month old. Can face in or out but not supposed to be used on your back till 12 months I think. My baby loves it and it's quite supportive though she's still heavy! I've used it to death and it's still good as new.

I also have an ergo 360, which is great.

I have a Beco gemini and love it. Front inwards, front forward, side and back carry. Very comfortable.

Second going to a sling library to try some out though.

I have a Beco Gemini too for my 91st centile 10 month old - so comfortable.

At 6m I carried DD on my back in a connecta. However, unless you are a fairly experienced babywearer I wouldn't recommend back carrying such a small baby for the first time.

I have a few reservations about outward carrying really small babies too. It can be quite overwhelming for them at that age and actually neither of mine ever had an issue with chest facing carries as they can still see lots from up that high just by looking sideways. Their face shouldn't be buried in your chest so they should still be able to see plenty. And mine were as 'nosy' as the next baby. If you really feel that outward facing is the best option the ergo 360 is meant to be good from an ergonomic perspective. Lots of carriers that you can carry forward facing aren't that comfortable for baby or you and don't hold their hips in an optimal position.

For hip reasons they don't recommend forward facing till older than your little one.
Go for something like the ergobaby that is recommended by the hip dysplasia institute to keep little ones hips safe. They have a list online of the recommended carriers.

Another vote for Beco Gemini!

The beco gemini does hold the hips and legs in the correct position. We mostly use it inward facing on the front though and switch to back carry or side carry when they are old enough.

Another vote for the ergo 360. I recommend it to all new parent friends.

You really need to try a few and hire before you buy. Can you get to a sling library?

I front carry my 10 month old who is 75% for weight but 98% for height. We did not start using a sling until she was 7 1/2 months.

I use a Manduca and I am thinking about back carrying soon but I like to see her.

Whatever you do make sure you follow the TICKS guidelines so that means no baby bjorn.
