High chair safety

Hi,
As the post name suggests how do you guys use your high chairs. For instance do you strap your child in the high chair and go in the kitchen to cook, if you can see them. If not what do you do when you have to cook etc?

We let lo play until his food was ready and on the table. Then we put him in his highchair. We stopped using one a while ago, and use a booster seat instead. We do the same

Do you mean you let him play in a high chair when you were in another room or that you let them free reign or use a play pen etc?

I prepare a lot of good the night before and either leave her in baby proofed playroom, let her crawl around the kitchen and empty my pan draw or is she is extremely clingy but her in a sling.

Ah a play pen sounds a good idea if you got them used to it

You cook first and then put them in the high chair to sit down to eat?

That's what I mean what do you do while you are cooking?

I've got an open plan kitchen/living area so they'll be playing nearby where I can see. Sometimes I put them in the high chair in the kitchen and they'll watch me cook!

With the baby (8mo) I do a mix of letting her roam the floor, playpen, jumperoo or highchair next to me with a toy. Which depends on her mood and some days I have to rotate through the different activities. If my toddler's up for it I ask DD1 to play with her.

DD2 (2.8yo) is either plonked in front of Cbeebies in the next room where she'll happily sit fairly still, or in with us in the kitchen playing with toys/her sister or watching me cook.

I live in a terrace, kitchen at the back leads to dining (middle) room. For example at breakfast time, we cone down stairs, ds into highchair I get breakfast fir both off us (can see him from.kitchen) We eat breakfast (cereal) then he stays strapped in eating fruit/toast/yogurt while I wash up and sweep. Then I clean him up and do his teeth.

He's really good in the highchair. From being little I've done this, and spent a long time singing, playing hidey Boo etc to keep him entertained. 19 months now.

Until my DS was about 18m he would happily sit in his high chair and play, eat some snacks, watch what I'm doing etc while I was cooking. Safest place for him so he didnt get under my feet. Also handy to be able to pop to the loo or whatever as he was strapped in and happy with whatever he was doing

I would usually put the baby in a playpen or on the floor in the (reasonably babyproofed) next room where I could keep an eye on him.

Shortly before DS1 was born, a colleagues baby tried to get out of her highchair and fell head first on the floor. I think the baby was a little over 12 months at the time. The baby was fine, luckily, but that really put me off leaving any of mine in a highchair unsupervised. We don't eat in the kitchen, and there's not really room in their for a highchair, so I can't cook and watch a baby in a highchair at the same time.

When they were very little I put them in their bouncy chairs, when they were bigger, in their cots with toys, although they were usually napping if I was making their food. With DS2 DH made, and still makes, our food.
