Amount of milk

My DD is 11 weeks old and having 6oz bottles every 3-3.5 hours! Now I thought this was fine but now my DP has made me question, he thinks she should be going longer between feeds! I'm worried now I'm over feeding her but she is taking the milk and draining the bottles! Any advice please?

Does your dp wait a set time between every meal or drink? Nope?

Ask him why he thinks a tiny baby would....

Feeding her when she needs it is absolutely the right thing to do. :)

I get what you are saying but he thinks she should be going longer, if she did she'd be waking through the night wouldn't she? She's having roughly 36oz milk per day, so this isn't too much?x

Agree totally. Tell your DO he can only have something to eat and drink every four hours tomorrow and see how long he lasts.

Formula goes on the weight of the baby, so it's impossible to tell if she's having too much unless we know her weight

The current advice is to feed on demand. Feed your baby when they show hunger cues and there should always be some formula left in the bottle when the baby stops drinking. If you get your baby weighed regularly it will should up when there is a problem.

Babies should drink roughly 2.5 floz of formula per pound of weight, some will drink more, some will drink less, so she's within the normal suggested amounts.

Agree with Heir. Feed her when she's hungry and always make sure there is enough so that there is sone left at the end of a feed. That way you know she's getting all she needs

You see that's the other thing, she's draining her bottles but seems very content! Should I move her up to 7oz or could this be a growth spurt?

Ds is 19 weeks and feeds every three hours in the day then sleeps all night

He has been on three hourly feeds since about 8 weeks I think

Increasing oz makes no difference to him going longer, I expect that won't happen until he's on solids

You cannot overfeed an 11 week old- they will take as much as they need and you should feed on demand. Don't leave it longer than 3 hours between feeds in the daytime or she will start waking more frequently at night.
