Is this a decent portion for a 5/6 boy?

My ds, just turned 6 seems to think he should be getting more than this for dinner. I think it is probably too much already and certainly won't mind if he doesn't eat it all, though he may well do.

Am I right? What would your similar aged child eat?

Nobody is saying your plates are huge but children's portions look measly on a standard plate.

He won't moan if the plate is smaller.

Sorry but doesnt look very adventurous, it looks very brown and boring. Maybe he wants more variety?

It was roasted little potatoes, not mushrooms. I know it's a slightly odd meal, as I said, it was a leftover meal! Twas just the quantity I was wondering about.

That's a huge dinner portion for my tall 6.5YO and 8YO.

Neither would finish that. Amazed at people thinking it's measly.

I think MN would turn inside out and disappear in a ball of flames if at least 89% of posters didn't feel the need to chorus 'more veg!' It's like an annoying theme song on these threads.

My very skinny seven year old eats much more than that. Depends on the child and how active they are and their metabolism.

My 6 yr old gets 2 fish fingers with peas/broccoli and a waffle

2 yr old gets one with veg no potato as it's apparently the food of the devil

Grin itsmy

My 6yr old won't eat vegetables, unless I make a winter vegetable soup. It's not for the want of trying on my part.

I've given up now, he's slim, has bags of energy and good teeth. He just does'nt like vegetables, boiled, steamed, grilled and roasted, god I have tried! I know when I'm beaten.

I would be delighted if mine would eat that much. They would eat 2 fish fingers, 2 of those potatoes and roughly the same number of tomatoes. I think you have given him a good sized portion. If he is still hungry you could up the veg and give him fruit/yoghurts afterwards. My DC always have fruit and yoghurts after their tea.
