Please help! Dry bottom with cloth?!?

Both Ds' are in cloth. Ds2 gets occaisional run of the mill nappy rash which i can handle (usually when i don't have a fleece liner handy!), but ds1 gets dry bum cheeks, on the 'seat' area and also around the inside and towards the front of his thighs where the wrap touches. the skin is pink and shiny and dry, almost like it had been painted with clear nail varnish.
I use a mix of nappies- tots, popolini, little lamb, traditional terries and also wraps- cot.bots, tots, bumpy, bear behinds, minki so i would think the same bits of skin are not always in contact?
anyone, any ideas?

i am looking for some wool wraps for night also if anyone is selling any? i dont have a ton 'o money hence dont care if they are tatty so long as they still do the job.

tia ladies.

I got that shiny thing occasionally with my ds's - not sure what caused it really but it did go - I would say it was def the wrap not the nappy - do you use popper or velcro wraps? - I think popper ones are better as they get bigger - but does depend on shape of your baby.

One of my friends makes her own wool longies out of jumper sleeves!

Hope you sort it out.

try fleece cuffed wraps or wool ones. dd3 was like this, it was like a burn.

thanks.
yeah, it does look like a burn. most of my wraps are velcro. he is quite skinny and the popper ones dont seem to go tight/loose enough in the right places.
cant find my fleecy cuffed one at the mo
thanks all.

Just to clarify - he gets the rash on his bottom where the wrap DOESN'T touch, as well?

Have you asked your HV about it?

What (if any) creams do you use?

Have you tried bamboo or just cotton?

Shiney rash sounds thrushy to me, or how DS's skin has gone before when it is healing from really nasty nappy rash (the old skin is coming off and the new skin is still very shiney and pink - like after sunburn)

LadyOfTheFlowers · 01/03/2007 11:41

yeah, it is also on the seat of his bum. the part in contact with a seat when he is sitting down.
he does not get a wet type rash or anything, it goes bright red then turns to this dry pink patch when it has dried out with his nappy off for an hour or so. until it has dried to pink it is sore for him.
once it is dry it is fine. (?)
i have got a couple of larger wraps for him so there is no way the wraps will be tight on his thighs now in case that was contributing but as it is the same on his bum cheeks im not convinced the wraps are the prob.
i have just changed to non bio as i was washing in bio as it is the only thing to get engine oil out of dhs work stuff.
when i used cloth before, i washed in bio and ds had no problem, this time with the same powder, he has this dryness, if the powder is the problem.
we had a break from cloth as he had a stay in hosp and the hospital were not very impressed!

Lady,

Bio could well be the problem here. Does he have any reactions elsewhere on his body?

Unfortunately any sensitivity to powders shows up worst on the bottom due to its reaction with urine.

I would also check it isn't thrush per Flame's advice, but if it's changing as it dries it's less likely - but important to check anyway.

See how he goes with the change of powder and go from there (also beware of anything you're soaking in, if you do soak).

My DS has powder build up soreness this morning - I am now agreeing with that!!

Its been a while since I've seen it so had forgotten how it looks

makesachange · 02/03/2007 23:06

Just a reminder not to HOT wash bamboo (any make). It will tolerate 60 (actually 70) but no more. Certainly not 90 - won't do it any good at all.

Emma the bamboo fan.

It wrecks the antibacterial wotsit with them too and generally makes em very unhappy fibres afaik (correct me if I'm talking cr*p Emma!!)

I have some wool wraps for sale if you want. Let me know and I will link with details.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/03/2007 10:45

lets have a look skyler!

Hello
Have a look here here
There is some lanolin stuff for waterproofing too. The marks are not as bad as they look on the photos but the Stacinator is stained and the tartan one faded on the inside. HTH

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/03/2007 17:15

skyler- thanks.
the one with the red inner looks good. is it actually faded or has some of the fleece pile worn away?
also do you think it will fit a 20monther? 28lbs in weight?
have not had one of these before so not sure how generous the sizing is.

OP posts:
Skyler · 04/03/2007 18:49

Hi. It is def fading as the dye came off on my nappies . I will measure the wrap. It was one I got from a SAHM in America and I think I used the Stacinator measurements....Bear with me.

Skyler · 04/03/2007 19:41

It is 43 cm top to bottom (as shown open in the photo) and about 46 across the top and 20 cm between the legs. All measurements without stretching and there are lots of poppers making it v adjustable. I don't know if it will be big enough but I put it over a HUGE night nappy on my dd1. It is BEAUTIFULLY made with green poppers and rainbow stitching and elasticated at the front and back and legs.
If you just wanted to try wool then the Stacinator is good too. It was the Stacinator that convinced me to give wool a go and I didn't look back for night times. HTH.

makesachange · 04/03/2007 20:34

Bloss,

Flame is right, it ruins the fibres (and their properties). Aplix is also ruined at about 90 degrees and above.

Emma

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/03/2007 21:08

thanks for the measurements skyler.
he is inbed now so i cant check. he wears the nemo lovebums wrap to bed atm that i got from you as it is really roomy. do you think the size is similar to that one? if you can remember! lol. thing is, it sort of 'dams' the wet in iyswim until it is all totally sodden then it all seeps thru the leg cuffs. was there a stacinator on your link? or are you saying you then went and bought one?
