Hi. Not sure if i have posted this in the right place but here goes.

I am planning on breast feeding and really keen to do all i can to make it work. Just curious though, if all else fails and i end up having to formula feed, what brands are the best to go for?

I was recommended Aptamil by a midwife after my twins were born and had to be taken to NICU, she asked if we had a preference to a set formula incase they had to formula feed them and I said no idea.
She said they had one other brand or APTAMIL very loudly and a big nod. ^^ So we went with that. I guess they aren't allowed to push brands but that was her way of suggesting it.
They were tube fed for a week and then ended up cup feeding them breast milk and topping up with formula.

We have used Aptamil ever since with no problems but I don't really see that it could make too much difference what you use.

Just bear in mind that the makers Aptimil promote it very heavily to HCPs so the recommendations from them may be biased. Not a criticism, just something to think about for those who are looking to buy formula. Smile

Jilted My health visitor pushes Aptimil. Even after I pushed her and she admitted all formula was pretty much the same Hmm

Cow and Gate and Aptamil are made in the same place by the same company- they are effectively the same but Cow and Gate is cheaper.

Peach that's shocking but an all to familiar story. One of the best tips I ever got from MN was, when your HV says something completely bollocks you might not agree with is to say "oh I haven't heard that before, can you point me in the direction of the research to back that up please?"

Disclaimer: my HV probably hates me Grin

Jilted I have a thread on here about my HV telling me not to cuddle my newborn too much so I share your feelings Wink

That's fucking outrageous! My DS would only sleep on me. Think I can remember dimly being told that he should be sleeping through and in his own room. When I asked her to come around and show me how to do it she shut up and never mentioned it again. Don't think it helped that she hadn't had children.

Apparently the formulas are the same BUT I thing their little sensitive stomach do notice the differences. I BF both mine until 6 weeks. Then with the first went aptimil but it made her so so colicky and she got constipation and bad wind. I swapped to Hipp organic and poos reverted to normal and became identical to breast milk poo.
The second I put straight onto Hipp once my expressed milk ran out and her poos never changed
