Massively failed as a ftp?!

I have a 15mth old DS who doesn't regularly hold his bottle and never feeds himself. Obviously I haven't tried hard enough to get him too but really been trying i cut up food small enough and he just plays with it he never puts anything in his mouth.. I seriously don't know what to do..

It's ok you haven't failed all children progress differently at diff speeds, playing with the food is all part of it. Just keep encouraging and put it to your mouth etc so dc learns and copy's

My dc was behind ever milestone 😣 but caught up eventually.
So give yourself a break! 💐

All children are different and parenting is about helping your child learn but they will do things when they are ready.

Can I ask why he still has a bottle? If is recommended they don't have one after 12 months and they are fairly awkward for little hands.

Have you tried giving him bigger chunks of food like a quarter of a slice of toast?

He still has a bottle because he won't drink out of anything else.. I've tried about 6 different types of cups/ beakers

Children are funny little things. Have you tried a bottle with a sports cap? Does he see another children drink or try to drink your drinks?

None of my children ever held their own bottles. The had a cup with meals from about 6 months which they were fine with and they fed themselves fine. Bottles stopped at 11/12 months but used to give them a cup with milk which they would use themselves. You are not a failure. Remember you are doing your best and that's all you can do. Children are individuals, they are not all the same and will do things in their own time. If he is reaching his other milestones you shouldn't be too concerned.

These are the ones I've tried.. he just bites the ends. Maybe i should just chuck the bottles out then we'll have no choice..

Yes he's reached his other milestones even a bit advanced in some. He talks well and walked before 12mths..

They are all very bottle like. Have you tried a simple Tommy tippee one or an open cup.

The only beaker both mine would take are as suggested by a pp, the Tommee Tippee basic one, the nursery they go to use these too. But you are absolutely, in no way whatsoever a failure. At the end of the day your lo is getting fed. My dd1 was about 18 months before I could prise the bottle off her for milk. She'd happily drink water out of the tt beaker but wanted her bottle for milk. Her teeth are absolutely fine, confirmed by dentist. Just follow their lead on this one, good luck.

You absolutely haven't failed op. You're doing great. There's so much conflicting advice out there and other parents telling you how their LO did things at such and such an age. Pay it no heed. They all do things at their own pace and he'll do it when he's ready. Babies/toddlers get lots of comfort from sucking so no wonder hey don't like to give up the bottle or breast. Plus he's busy focusing on other things right now.
Agree with pp, follow his lead and he'll be fine. Soon enough he'll want to do all the things he sees you doing such as using an open cup, property crockery and city meet etc.

Thank you all. It is hard when everybody is comparing the different stages. But he eats, drinks and sleeps well. And is always happy. as long as I'm not still feeding him and holding his bottle when he's in his teens then all will be well

Have you thought about a doidy cup. It wouldn't replace his bottle but he could maybe try at mealtimes? Just make sure you've got your table etc covered hahaha. Your son will do things in his own time...

You're fine and so is he. Most children are ahead in some areas and behind in others and there's very little you can do about it. Other mums of kids his age are panicking because their DC isn't walking yet or hasn't said any words yet. If you keep giving him the opportunity to learn he'll do it in his own time (and if you're anything like me you'll then find something else to worry about!).

You haven't failed, but you are allowing your child to call the shots. Ditch the bottle and use only cups. Trust me, he'll get the hang of it very quickly.

You haven't failed at all. My DS1 (who is a bright wee guy and was talking and walking early) refused all lumpy food until 18 months. I had to spoon feed him purees until then. One day it just clicked and he started eating everything in sight. Hopefully it will be the same for you guys,

Hey my son is almost 25 months and only this week have we stopped bottles! And some days he wants me to feed him - usually if he's really tired! You are doing a good job, don't beat yourself up xxx
