What's the earliest I can take newborn out of the house in the pram for a walk?

Hi

We have a six-day-old and I need to give her mum a break for an hour or so. Am I okay to take her out in the pram? She and her mum are dubious, but it's 13 degrees and I have friends who did it in London in November...

Thanks!

Rich

You've all been inside for 6 days Confused

DS was out at 1 day old because I needed to do the food shop.
DD was out at hours old because I needed to do the school run.
Neither of them died as a result.
Honestly the fresh air will do you and baby good Smile

The night cold isn't good for baby's to breath in because is very cold to so I think is best to put rain cover on at night for the night cold.

Don't forget the 'L' plates!! Grin

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2017 11:08

That is pretty illegible.
are you suggesting that the baby should be covered in a pram raincoat, at night, in the house?
Because babies shouldn't breathe night air?
O. ..k...

BikeRunSki · 05/02/2017 11:09

It's fine Non-Mediterranean newborns do it all the time.

user1486273640 · 05/02/2017 11:09

I'm saying the buggy needs the rain cover the see through thing over the whole buggy to keep the warm in

kel1234 · 05/02/2017 11:10

Personally I didn't want to take my lo too far until after he had his bcg at his 6 week check

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2017 11:11

But they're not going out at night!

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 11:11

I am lost now. Confused

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2017 11:12

Night air that has been filtered through a rain cover (or coat as I called it :o) loses its toxicity. Clear?

user1486273640 · 05/02/2017 11:12

How do you know they might do 😌 You never know it gets dark early still.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 11:13

What the what what?

user1486273640 · 05/02/2017 11:14

It's nothing about toxity im talking about the cold night air that goes up the baby's nose it may sting

GinIsIn · 05/02/2017 11:15

Our baby is due any day now. DH is going to bring him home by himself by walking through the park. All being well, the baby will be 1 day old. Our doctor and midwife have both said that it's an excellent idea for the baby to get some fresh air.

Just wrap them up for whatever the temperature is and off you go!

If your wife and MIL are dubious point them in the direction of the numerous studies on babies in Scandinavia, who are taken outside and left to nap in freezing temperatures and have some of the best infant health stats in the world.....

user1486273640 · 05/02/2017 11:15

All I'm trying to say is at night or when it gets dark the rain cover is a good idea so the cold air don't hit the baby's nose cause the air is colder at night n when It's dark

GinIsIn · 05/02/2017 11:16

Ummm, user whatever who isn't the OP - you know air going up babies' noses is how they breathe, right? It's not some big mystery thing that's going to hurt them.... Confused

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2017 11:16

Fenwlla have you seen the endless threads about the requirement for a car seat?

HalfShellHero · 05/02/2017 11:17

Isn't it usually the first 7 days? Day 6 should be ok x

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 11:17

I am going to read the whole thread again because I am not understanding the danger here.

user1486273640 · 05/02/2017 11:17

I'm saying the NIGHT air is COLDER than DAY air so I think it's better to use a rain cover so the cold don't hit their nose.

twinmamma2b · 05/02/2017 11:18

There's definitely a cultural thing surrounding this. My Chinese in laws expected both DC and I to stay inside for a month. Didn't happen.

MyCatLikesToSitInBoxes · 05/02/2017 11:18

But a rain cover keeps rain off, not air! (Thank goodness.) Confused
