Retractable stair gates

Is there such a thing as a retractable stair gate that you can open & close easily & with one hand? I've got a kiddyguard that looks great but absolutely no use when I've got a baby in my arms and my older dc can't operate it as it's so bloody fiddly!

We got the kiddyguard second hand off ebay. I like both, the folding one is just as good as the pricier one.
