Baby won't take solids

I started trying a few days before 6 months. Dd is 7 months tomorrow and still not swallowed a mouthfull. Lots of disgusted faces and gagging. She needs to eat as not gaining weight and exclusive bf so taking its toll on me now.

Any genius ideas?

My friends boy didn't eat until 10 months. I'm crying at the thought (she won't take a bottle and I intend to return to work).

Tried puree and finger foods, dipping toys i food, licking from finger. No interest at all

What's are you giving her to eat, sachets, jars etc?

My first was a bloody awful eater.

I really recommend Ella's sachets. Start on the 4month ones. They are so smooth and runny. There are some pretty bland ones like pear that really don't taste of much. Don't be disheartened, all babies are different. I would definitely leave finger food for the moment.

Yes mainly tried Ella's, but also jars and homemade stuff , yoghurt, baby rice our food. My dd1 was so easy I was expecting a repeat performance

Have you tried just in a high chair at the table, a little of what you are having and ignore?

Yes it went quite well until some almost got swallowed, then she puked.

I was initially concerned as our second hasn't taken to food as quickly as our first but decided to just chill out about the whole thing. We don't make her anything special but just let her play with anything that's appropriate from our meals. It looked like all she was doing was playing with the food and spitting it out but as a week has passed her nappies are telling me that she is swallowing some of the food - so maybe she's doing more than you think?
Still not eating much or enough to drop any milk feeds but I'm just going with the fact that shes making very slow progress with the old phrase 'food for fun until one'.

Her gag reflex just seems so strong I'm a bit concerned it will not get better anytime soon. I know I can't speed the process, but just craving a little bit more time on my own..as she wont have a bottle I was hoping food would be my answer. She's such a lovely but very opinionated little lady :)

At hv suggestion i also got a nuby net feeder, but she thinks that's horrible.

The hv told me about putting food on a toy. It was quite funny as you could see her watch me do it and turn her nose up.

I had to force feed her antibiotics over christmas and feel it could have destroyed our trust poor thing

Op have you tried getting her to take milk from a sippy cup instead of a bottle?

sounds like you are trying a lot of things with the food but you can force it so perhaps focus on trying to get her to take milk in other ways. have you tried to get your DP to give the milk instead of you?

Agree, high chair at the table when you eat and put things on her tray for her to pick up. She will try stuff because everything goes into their mouths at that age but ignore her and don't make her eating an issue. This is one battle you will never win, so don't battle with her.

At seven months she can go straight onto a cup, so I wouldn't bother with bottles. They're just a complete faff anyway. All babies do eventually start eating, so try not to fret.
