How do I stop my dc from hollering in the house?

Two years ago we moved from a small flat to a house and I vowed to teach my children to not shout for me whenever they wanted something. This was after having witnessed this behaviour at friends' houses. Maybe it's just me but it really grates that my dc expect to yell for me of dh to immediately come running when we might be in the middle of some thing. Cue two years of the following:
Dc: MUUUUUMMMM!!!!!!
Me: NOOOO STOP SHOUTING! COME AND FIND ME!
Dc: MUUUUMMM!!!
Me: STOOOOP SHOOOOUTIIIING!
Which is obviously counter-productive but I don't know how to stop it. If I go to them, that reinforces the behaviour. If I shout back, that reinforces the behaviour and doesn't make for a calm household. If I ignore them, they just keep shouting until they erupt.
What do you do when your children holler for you?
