Hydrocortisone cream for teething rash

Morning all,
DS is 8months, has quite a bad teething rash. It comes & goes, sometimes it is very red, angry looking & scaly whereas other times it is faded & barely noticeable. Tends to be redder when his teeth are playing him up.
Tried different creams-aveeno, sudocrem, bepanthem, zerocream, cetraben etc. Health visitor, pharmacist & friend recommended trying hydrocortisone cream. My friend said it cleared her son's rash right up.
I applied it yesterday afternoon (1%) & this morning his rash is really angry & red with dry patches.
Does this mean he's had a reaction to it & that I should discontinue use or is this normal? Don't want to risk making it worse. Thanks for any advice :)

I'm really surprised everyone recommended HC cream as it thins the skin. Is the rash near his mouth and a result of dribbling? Personally I'd apply some barrier cream (e.g. Vaseline) and wait for the teething to pass. If you do carry on with HC, use the very tiniest amount you can, a really thin film.

Ps - have no medical background, just personal history of dermatitis and own DC got rashes etc when younger.

the GP prescribed hydrocortisone for teething eczema on ds, he had it for months and months and it was awful, all round his mouth. The hydro cream clears it up in a few days. I'd rather take the risk of damage from the hydro cream over risks of damage from perpetually red, inflamed and painful skin!
I was a child with eczema on my face and my parents would only use useless natural mild creams that did fuck all. Don't put your child through that!
I would say though that you should go to the GP and ask if it should be prescribed rather than just start using it.

My child has eczema and I've had it all my life. We use hydrocortisone and other steroids when necessary and I agree that I'd rather use them then have terrible sore skin for months on end. It shouldn't make it worse though so I'd stop using it and I'd continue with Vaseline and other creams and ask medical advice if it's not getting better. Teething rash you really want to stop the wetness as that's the cause so a barrier cream is your best bet.

You can get hydrocortisone ointment (on prescription). That might be better as it won't be so drying

I haven't used it again since it looked so red & angry this morning, guessing it just didn't suit him as my friend who used it for her son said it cleared it up straight away. Don't want to risk putting more on & making it worse. I've been putting bepanthen on again & it's better than it was this morning so going to continue with that & he's got a doctor's appointment in a week or so in case it's no better.
