At what temperature do you wash your nappies?

Cloth nappy newbie. Just wondering if I should be doing them at 60. I tend to stick almost everything in at 40 degrees at the moment.

40 here, no problems. Once or twice have had a particularly stubborn slightly-more-than-a-stain that has gone back in the bin to be washed iwth the next load.

pelvicflawed · 20/02/2007 18:59

Always do them at 60 (rest of washing gets done at 40) under the impression that at 60 any bugs/nasties are killed off.

suzycreamcheese · 20/02/2007 19:01

when i used them (long story) i did them at 60 w/ nappy fresh and tea tree oil for same reason as pelvicflawed...

60 here too

lemonaid · 20/02/2007 19:08

Normally at 40, with the occasional wash at 60 every so often. No one has died yet.

60 (most other washing done at 40) to get rid of stains and kill any nasty bugs

Flamesparrow · 21/02/2007 09:25

40 here with the odd blast at 60

alibongo77 · 21/02/2007 20:51

Rule of thumb tends to be wash at 40 if just wet nappies but wash at 60 if there are any soiled nappies.

JillyBeansOnToastForDaveNW · 21/02/2007 20:52

40 here. V occasional 60.

  1. I find it gets rid of stains better at a lower temp. Give them a wash at 60 every now and then to get rid of any nasties but they seem fine at 40
redbeki · 25/02/2007 20:53

I do mine at 40.I just bung them in with other stuff too.

maisiemog · 25/02/2007 21:27

I wash wipes and nappies at either 50 or 60. I read somewhere [very scientific approach ] that e-coli bacteria lives in the bowel/poo and 60 degrees kills it.
I always just put all the nappies together in the bucket, so they all ended up poopy.

Miaou · 25/02/2007 21:31

I do nappies at 60, everything else at 40. I find that at 40 they still retain a bit of a niff, tbh.

SenoraSpoon · 25/02/2007 21:32

unless baby has had diarrhea, in which case I wash at 60.

chirpygirl · 25/02/2007 21:37

Normally 40 and then at 60 (nappies only, no wraps) once a fortnight.

I have found that the wraps don't last as long if you wash them regularly at 60, but this could be just me!
