Leaving 12 yo at home

Would you be ok with leaving a 12 yo (year 8) at home in bed at about midnight for half an hour while you went to collect someone?

Would he/she know that you were going out or could you leave a note in a very obvious place? TBH I doubt mine would notice I wasn't in if they did happen to wake whilst I was gone but they'd be concerned if they did notice.
But yes, I would leave a 12 year old.

Yes as long as child was happy with the situation.

The child, DC2, would be fine with it but I've been made to feel like I'm a terrible parent for even suggesting it! I'm at a friends house for the evening half a mile away and DC1 at a party 10 minutes away so I asked DH if he could collect DC1 and call in for me on the way home (and drop of a friend as I'm at his mothers house). He said no as DC2 would be home alone (for half an hour) A compromise I came up with is that he gets me and drops me home (5 minutes) then gets DC1 but he made a fuss about this too. I think it's an excuse because he can't be arsed which is hurtful but he's turned it around saying I'm a crap mother for even suggesting it!

You're not a crap mum for suggesting it, your DH is being a grumpalump.

No it's perfectly reasonable! The link on the gov.uk website for leaving kids home alone is only an nspcc guideline (not law) and it says that children under 13 shouldn't be left for 'long periods of time'. Which is say means an overnight period. Half an hour is fine, and I leave my 9 year old for half hour periods on a regular basis and she is more than capable.
