When and how to ditch the dummy

My dd has just turned 2. She's had a dummy since she was a tiny baby but these days only gets it when she's going for a nap (although my dp will give her it when she asks just to keep her quite - grrrr!).

She tends to lose it quite quickly when she falls asleep but won't wake up looking for it and generally sleeps through the night so it's not actually causing us any sleepless nights.

At the moment she's got a cold and cutting her last few teeth so she is asking for it more so I know that now isn't a good time.

I'd though of asking her to give it up for Christmas and had mentioned giving it to santa but she's terrified of santa so that just made her want it more!

Even thought she rarely uses it I'm keen to get rid of it sooner than later - we only have one or two left so I'm adament I'm not buying any more!

Any suggestions how/when best to do this?

Mine had hers until she was just over three, only at night though. We had long haul flights so I left it till after those to get rid

I threw all but one away and told her we needed to say goodbye to the dummy as she was a big girl.

She told me for a while she would live it back, but it was all pretty much fine

Thanks ivykaty - I feel that she's not quite at that age where she would really understand why I was taking it away from her.

One of the ones we have left is a bit crappy and she doesn't love it so I'm hoping that she'll lose interest!
