New Year party

Hello all

My husband would like to invite some family round to celebrate New Year at ours this year. Our child will be 7 months old, he's quite a light sleeper and the stairs to our downstairs bit are open - there are no doors to shut off noise. In addition the only bathroom is next to his room.

I don't think we should invite people - it seems selfish to disrupt the baby's sleep just so we can have a party. We'll have the rest of his life to celebrate when he's a bit older. I can't see people enjoying themselves either knowing there's a sleeping baby upstairs. My husband thinks we shouldn't put our lives on hold and should have the party.

What do you think?

I'm in a similar situation although my dd is 2. Our house is a new build so noise carries easily although we do have a downstairs loo.

I was worried about it but then I thought it's 1 night - would be different if you were doing it all the time and it's not like 2 year olds (or 7 month olds) have busy days that they need to be well rested for.

I'd have a party, let your wee one stay up if they don't settle - might mean you get a lie in the morning after!

I would be telling my husband that if you have the party then he has to deal with baby when he wakes up and deal with the tired baby the next day.

I take it he's your first? Grin Really, have the party. If he doesn't sleep through it then bring him down to join in for a bit. I wouldn't do it every week but one night a year? It'll be fine.
