Children screaming when playing

How do you feel about it? Feel a bit bad as my DD age 4 was happily playing with her sister and kept screaming (some kind of sword game). I kept saying "please stop screaming, it's horrible". I said she could shout if she wanted, but high pitched screeching was not allowed inside as it makes me feel weird and it's a horrid noise. Am I being a really un-fun mum?

No. I do the same. I cannot stand screaming. It makes me feel stressed and cross.

Same here. DD is 4 and has been doing this ever since she played with the 6 year old boy next door over the summer. Does my head in, and really winds me up. I think it probably does make us un-fun, but it genuinely irritates me instantly to a level that I can't bear.

I hate it too and always tell my 3yo DD to stop. You're not un-fun. Screaming is horrible to listen to. I have tinnitus and it is noticeably worse if there has been screaming.

I also say no screaming.

I hate it too. In fact even reading this thread is setting me on edge. I was looking daggers at a group of screeching teenagers on the bus earlier.

I have a no screaming rule, I just call out 'no screaming please' and if they carry on I explain that they must save screaming for an absolute emergency and if they carry on screaming then someone may think that they are in danger...then there is always the boy who called wolf story.

I am staunchly anti-fun in this regard. My kids were not screamers, their cousins were. They're all grown up now, but my kids still saying "why did Shoutee & Yeller scream all the time?"

Can't bear it. Scream outside if you must, but even then it seems wholly unnecessary.
