nappy rash from Satan

Can anyone help?
My 17 month old daughter has has dreadful nappy rash now for 5 weeks. Have tried Sudocrem, Origins nappy balm, Johnson's nappy cream and even Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream (@£20 a tube!) on a friend's recommendation. The rash eases up a bit now and then but is generally very sore and angry looking - made worse when my daughter scratches at it and makes it bleed.
We do let her run around without a nappy each day but I'm seeing no improvement.
Is this just how nappy rash is?
Looking forward to some wise counsel.

It sounds like it could be thrush (as it is itchy) you can use Canestan cream on it (can get this from the pharmacists).

Hope it clears up - poor thing must be finding it very sore

Hi Lyndap, We sufer all the time with nappy rash, my daughter can't be left without one so it occurs regulalry, If you've tried all the creams and there doesn't seem to be any improvement, it may be worth a trip to the Dr's, I've found a few times that DD has had thrush which has stopped soreness going with creams alone, although there wasn't any indicatation that she had it.
A course or cream to clear up the thrush had it gone in a couple of days

Hope this helps

Vici

Hoxtonchick,
I may be being really dim - but what's metanium? Is it a nappy cream perchance - or a condition!!!

Soapbox and vicimelly thanks for the friendly advice. I've booked in to see our GP tomorrow morning as I'm now feeling like a bad mother who should have gone long before now!

you'll probably get Timodine cream from the GP which should clear it up in no time. Sounds like it could well be thrush, don't feel guilty. My ds had a dose of this a few months ago and I tried to sort it out myself for 3 weeks, too, eventually threw in the towel when it started bleeding. Timodine cured it overnight!

metanium is a nappy cream, costs about £3 or £4 a tube and is well worth it, you only use a bit.

Thanks all so much. I love posting on mumsnet - always get great support and advice.
Geekgrrl, I'm also at the , "eugh, it's bleeding. Time to call in the experts!" stage.
Good to know the Timodine works so well.

Bundle - thnaks for explaining what metanium is -I may get some just to have in my box of tricks.
