8hr Flight at 23-25 weeks pregnant with twins

Hi!
Has anyone flown at 23-25 weeks pregnant with twins from London - New York! First pregnancy and my midwife is not very insightful with a yes/no!

Not twins and I had a very uneventful pregnancy, but I did that length flight at around that stage with DS. Was totally fine. I was told to wear compression stockings and drink lots of water and walk around often. Probably good advice for any travelers. Check the airline regulations and your travel insurance. Twins might be a whole different ball game though!

When are you returning? I think the cut off was 28 weeks when I flew with twins. I really wouldn't have been comfortable though as I was bigger than most women who were due to give birth by then!

My friend went into spontaneous labour with one baby at 25 weeks. I am sure it will be fine but I wouldn't take the risk.

I flew home from New York at 21 weeks (not twins). It was manageable, but I was a bit uncomfortable (back ache mainly). If you're going abroad after 23 weeks though, you need to consider what would happen if you went into premature labour - does your insurance cover care of the children if they were born in New York and how would your family manage with an extended stay abroad if your twins were in NICU for 3-4 months+ ?

Personally I wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary. I'm a nicu nurse and see far too many twins (and singletons) born at that gestation.

I flew back from Hong Kong at something ridiculous like 27 weeks - I was just within the cut off date, I think. It was really, really uncomfortable - and that was only the one baby. It's doable but it'd have to be absolutely worth it - is this the last big child-free holiday? If so, I'd be tempted. But make damn sure you're well insured.

I wouldn't personally. At 25 weeks I measured 32 weeks and was big and uncomfortable. I missed my sister's wedding (4 hour flight) at 24 weeks as I didn't want to chance anything.

I would have good insurance in place as you don't know how things will work out (what stage are you at?) At 20 weeks I was fit as a fiddle with twins, by 23 weeks I was on bed rest at risk of premature labour.

I wouldn't fly at that gestation even with a singleton. I just felt too vulnerable in pregnancy, not to mention physically uncomfortable.

Add in the inherent risks with twins and I just don't think it's worth it.

Why would you do this? Really, why? There are far too may what ifs. Surely not worth the hassle and the risk. If you're planning a holiday, there are lots of lovely things you could do in this country without putting yourself through the discomfort and possible complications of a twin pregnancy.

I delivered my twins at 26+1 earlier this year. I ended up with an emergency c-section and my girls were in NICU for 16 weeks.

If you are returning to New York to have the twins then yes. If it's a holiday then it really isn't worth the risk

Thanks everybody! I fly at 23 weeks out to NY and would be 25 weeks when flying back! Was thinking of cutting it short and only going for a week but would still be 24 weeks when flying back. Meant to be going out to NY for Christmas whole extended family flying over hence why im torn but sounds like more people have experienced issues so thinking of not going now.
