Hello!

Enjoying life as a new mummy and dd is now 5 months old. I had no idea how strongly I would feel about having more children so soon after dd was born!! Even when the stitches were still hurting like mad I was already thinking about having more little ones...totally surprised myself and wasn't prepared for these feelings at all.

Still bf exclusively and keen to try for another baby very soon. Is it ok to start trying now? Aware it may take a while if still bf, but is it too soon? Will my body cope with another pregnancy so soon and can I still give dd the attention she has been used to?

I think the strick medical advice is wait a bit longer than 5 months, i think I have heard a year being mentioned somewhere. But plenty of people do concieve when their babys are really young still, despite breast feeding.
Don't start trying thinking, oh by the time it happens my dc will be older, you could conceive this month.
good luck with whatever you decide

I know how you feel and my DD is 5 months too . I heard that it basically takes 18 months for your body to replenish its iron stores after a birth (although Brittany spears conceived 2 months after her first baby, so had 2 in a year). Also, from what Ive read on MN, mums see their babies becoming all cute at 6-9 months so decide to have another, but then are dealing with a newborn, just as the terrible twos are starting/potty training and all that. Im going to stick out until at least 18 months personally, because I`d like to make sure I get time with DD too.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide

my friend breast fed her 1st and had her 2nd when her first was 11 months and one week old - he wasn't even early! she then breast fed both of them together. she actually states she found having 2 no harder than having one and loves it!

My friend fell pregnant with her 3rd and 4th babies when breastfeeding ...
As did my mother, my sister was born on my brother's first birthday.

I have friend that has 10 months 10 days between her 2 DS. I don't think she breastfed DS1 though.

Personally, I was not ready to try again so soon, but if you feel up to it and think you will be able to cope then I don't see you you should not go for it.

did she find it very hard having them so close?

i'm pregnant with my 2nd a month after stopping b/feeding totally. DS is 8mths. I remember looking at him at 4mths, and thinking 'god this is great, let's have loads!' but i managed to wait, er, another 4 mths!

My mother reckons it's no harder with 2 if you're organised, but we'll see!
