Baby/toddler bedroom

We live in a 2 bed house. We have one daughter, aged 18 months. We'd like to plan for a 2nd child. It's likely we'll be in this house for at least next 5 years (finances etc.)
Anyone with advice on babies/toddlers sharing a room? Is it doable? I'm sure there must be people out there doing this already.
Any thoughts, advice is appreciated

My second DC is now 2 yr and still doesn't sleep through the night, so with this biased experience I would be investing in a good quality sofa bed or wall bed for the lounge so that the DC wouldn't need to share a room. You can disguise the use of a lounge as a bedroom quite well, especially if it's an adult bedroom.

Would your second DC be in your room to start off with? If so, by the time you and/or the baby are ready to no longer share, you'd probably know how well sharing a room with a sibling would go. You might be lucky and have two great sleepers

Hi pileoflaundry (great name). We do have the option to put a bed in our downstairs room (not a bedroom but could be used as one). My only concern with it was having 2 little ones upstairs with us downstairs. Obvs a baby monitor would be fine for baby but was worried that by that point (whenever that may be) our oldest might be up in the night and attempting to climb stair gates etc. to get to us. Or going into baby's room to try and play!! Thanks for tip though, will check for other threads.

When dd1 was 3.5 we realised that we had to close the door shut I her bedroom and explain to her that she wasn't allowed to open it and go downstairs (she actually can't reach the handle ). So that could be something you could do when your oldest is older and has the understanding ( and is going to comply!).

Thanks. I suppose timing wise she will be getting closer to being able to do that. Right now that seems so impossible but everything will change over time. DD is actually a really good sleeper so am a bit concerned that a baby in the room could change all that.
