That's it really! Just wanted to see the general opinion... following a conversation I had at work! Grin

Also I should add that dd2 struggled to settle it could take bloody hours. Earlier bed time didn't work instantly but looking back over the last 6 months there have been unprecedented improvement.

Likeaninjanow · 18/10/2016 20:22

8 year old goes up at 8, lights out at 8.30. 11 year old goes up at 8.30, lights out at 9. They both stay up until around 10 at the weekend. They both do a lot of sport, so are tired by night time.

bestofbothhovis · 18/10/2016 20:24

16 months, he has the exact same nap and bedtime routine each day but his bedtime varies. Had a few days of going to sleep at 6.30, then at 10, then back to around 7. He's currently still awake.

Ds1 - 13 in a couple of weeks- weekdays 9pm and up at 6.45. He moans that it's earlier than his friends but he's straight to sleep and has to be woken in the morning so obv needs it!! Weekends we're pretty flexible so normally around 10.30- but he won't wake till 8.30/9

Ds2- nearly 8- up to bed about 8ish but takes a long time to get to sleep. He wakes up any time between 8 and 9am

Sunflower30 · 18/10/2016 20:25

Ds2 who is almost 2 goes to bed between 6.30 and 7. Ds1 who is 4 goes about 20 minutes later. They both go to bed well but we're still working on waking up at a reasonable hour...

Lilaclily · 18/10/2016 20:27

Dd 10 - 8.30

Ds 12 - 9pm

He also moan it's earlier than his friends but he needs it and to be frank I don't want him in electronics until ten pm of an evening
He often reads in bed after 9 which we turn a blind eye to

Crusoe · 18/10/2016 20:29

9 year old - goes to bed at 8pm sometimes reads until 8.15/30 ish. Up at 5.30 / 6am however late he goes to bed so we stick with the 8pm bedtime.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 18/10/2016 20:30

Mine are 3 (4 next week) and just turned 2. We take them upstairs at 7pm to brush teeth, wash faces, toilet trips and have a story. I take the eldest to bed and tuck her in, turn her night light on and say goodnight then go straight downstairs. Dh lays in our bed with youngest and she's asleep within 10-15 minutes. He then pops her in her bed (DDS share) , checks on eldest who's asleep 95% of the time and comes down.

When they where babies (up until around 12 months) we just took them to bed when we went whether that was 8pm or 11pm. They'd sleep downstairs and we'd just carry them up

Passthecake30 · 18/10/2016 20:33

7&8 yr old - 8- 8.15 up at 7am on a school day

8.45- 9pm at the weekend, up at 8am

uhoh2016 · 18/10/2016 20:39

Nearly 2yr old 7-7.30
6yr old 8.30 school nights 9.30 weekend
9yr old 9 school nights 10 weekend

9yr old is always the 1st 1 awake in the morning

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 18/10/2016 20:41

DD - almost 13, takes herself off around 8 and reads in her room for a bit. She's an early sleeper/early riser.

DSs - 16 and 18. Depends. Today they've both gone to their room but often one will stay in here and the other will go. I guess it's the issue with sharing a room, at least they've worked out how to share it. Whichever one's in here gets poked to go at 11pm though as I feel me and DH deserve at least a little time alone! We go to bed between 12 and 1 and we expect the boys to have lights off by then - it's a small flat, and everybody has to get up by 7am during the week.

FWIW when they were little, bedtime was between 7 and 8. We've only really dropped sending them to bed over the last couple of years (DS1 is pretty biddable!) and it's only been since the summer holidays this year that the boys have wanted to send time in the living room in the evenings rather than doing their own thing in their room.

newmumwithquestions · 18/10/2016 20:49

2 yo at 8:30
10 mo similar, sometimes it's gone 9 by the time I wrestle her into bed.

It's later than most of you but both usually nap for up to 3 hours a day so it's a routine that seems to work for us - they're awake by 7 so I don't want to make bedtime any earlier!

surprisedandupset · 18/10/2016 21:13

9 year old goes at 9pm. And the 15 year old goes about 11 (or earlier if he's tired). But they don't need to be up before 7.45am.

MrsSparkles · 18/10/2016 22:01

5 year old - between 8 and 8.30, usually up at 7.30.

4 month old - who the hell knows!

annandale · 18/10/2016 22:08

12 year old has official bedtime at 8.30 in the week and 9 at weekends. Clearly he's right when he says it's very early compared to his friends Grin I have to say though, I would rather have those bedtimes and be relaxed about it (e.g. if he's having a bath he runs it at 8.25 and won't be upstairs until 8.45 or so) than have a later one and panic. Also every time he complains it's too early, he ends up having a day off because he has a fever and looks like death. He looks like a zombie in the morning like his mother so I won't change it just yet.

timealone · 18/10/2016 22:17

WilliamHerschel you are not alone. 2 year old here who goes to sleeps ~8/8.30pm - 7am and no naps

elQuintoConyo · 18/10/2016 22:18

Nearly-5yo. Bed at 9.30pm. Up at 8am. Pretty standard for where we live.

MoonriseKingdom · 18/10/2016 22:19

2 yr old. Bed between 7.30 and 8. Usually sleeps 12 hrs. Generally has a 2 hr nap after lunch.

4week old - not yet sussed out night vs days. I am very much missing sleep.

seminakedinsomebodyelsesroom · 18/10/2016 22:36

8yr old - in bed at 8, reads for a bit, faffs about up and down stairs for spurious reasons, but usually asleep by 8:30. Up about 6:30. Weekends more like 8:30/9 bedtime.

4yr old just started school and knackered so in bed between 6:30 and 6:45 and asleep by 7. He's up at about 6 but he's too broken to stay up later.

seminakedinsomebodyelsesroom · 18/10/2016 22:38

And I would also like to hear about what older kids 8/9/10 do in the evening. Are they in their rooms or with parents?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2016 22:41

Mine (10 and 12) generally stay downstairs till around 9-9.30. We all go out to various activities on different nights of the week, then there's homework, jobs to do, watch a bit of telly together, whatever really. I go up with them for a while most nights, read together, chat, tidy up, put away clean laundry stuff like that.

seminakedinsomebodyelsesroom · 18/10/2016 22:43

Oh that sounded a bit aggressive!! I meant I'm interested to know how other families manage the early to mid evening time with slightly older kids. I feel like I've run out of energy by the time I've got 4yo into bed, but my 8yo is still up for another hour.

BibbidiBobbidi · 18/10/2016 22:45

6 months, she goes to sleep between 6:30 & 7 and wakes up 12 hours after she went down Smile

AppleMagic · 18/10/2016 22:45

I have nearly 5 and nearly 3 year olds who usually go to bed at about 7 but will happily stay up until midnight on special occasions. I think the elder wakes up at 6-6.30 but I've somehow magically trained her to wait quietly in bed until her gro clock comes up at 7. The little one is usually woken by his sister but sometimes sleeps in a bit later if she sneaks out quietly - maybe 8-8.30am. He often takes a long nap too but when he's awake he's go go go. They were shit sleepers for ages so I'm feeling pretty lucky at the moment (and not expecting it to last).

seminakedinsomebodyelsesroom · 18/10/2016 22:46

I think our problem is that I still feed my two separately at about 5:30 and DH and I eat later - usually about 8:30, so we are often trying to get our dinner ready and engage with 8yo when we're tired and hungry!
