Superheroes

Where do small children find out about superheroes my ds knows nothing of them and has a few other boys asking him about them or wearing dress up and he has no clue...we watch CBeebies a few you tube things he likes I am worried his complete lack of knowledge will get him bullied at school - he is nearly 5... Everything I see is for adults

I think they just find out from each other at school! My DS has never seen any superhero films (he's only five), but loves dressing up and pretending to be a superhero. I don't think he or any of his friends have much of a clue about it, I doubt any of them have seen any films or anything.

Have you got SKY? the kids version of Marvel Avengers is on later today. My DC's seem to know their super heroes but DH is a massive graphic novel geek.

I think you have to know the difference between the Marvel heroes and the DC heroes but never let them actually watch most of the films because hey are so violent!

DS1 heard about them from older kids at nursery. He watches a lot of the cartoons

He watches Spider-Man and avengers cartoons on the Disney channels, and likes Lego superheroes (cartoons and Lego). He's 5 now and too young for most of the films, but has a ton of books aimed at kids, costumes (easily available in supermarkets or Disney store), toys, you name it.

Peers. Heard so much about them at nursery and then we started watching them on telly.
We also get the marvel playtime magazine which he LOVES.

Every once in a while we go back to the octonauts and I relax as I feel I know more about them than marvel.

Lol - dp is a complete geek owning lots of graphic novels etc I suppose we just talk to Ds about other things for some reason- ds loves trains and planes and animals - also if people show him to shiws videos he isn't into he wanders off

Following because my DS sounds like yours. Same age and likes CBeebies and no knowledge of superheroes.

Loves planes, animals, toy kitchen etc. HOW do these other 4 year olds know so much about superheroes which surely are aimed at much older children.

My DS is 2.8 and in love with spiderman. He's never seen it on TV or in books but there is a costume at nursery and I can only assume he sees other children playing spiderman type games. He wears the costume constantly at nursery so much that I've bought him his own now. He knows spiderman throws webs and climbs up walls but that's it as far as I can tell!

A streetcar ... glad ds is not the only one - I felt so out of touch but he just hasn't come across them much or if has is not bothered. I don't restrict his viewing but he just wanders away from the telly and plays trains or asks for something to be turned off. Finding nemo he loathes for example but adores the original jungle book. We tend to do it all via on demand anyway so he chooses after we read the names.

Pj Masks (on YouTube and Nick Jnr I think) is a really sweet super hero cartoon to teach him the basics. Three children who become animal superheros to save the day, Catgirl, Owlette and Gekko. They have superpowers (but only when I'm their pyjamas!) and help save the day, but brilliantly will always go and fix the wall for example of they knock it down during their mission as you shouldn't damage other people's property! Superheros and good manners what more can you ask for!
