Sleeping bags how many do i need?

As I'm putting my twins in the same cot when they arrive I've decided to go with sleeping bags/grobags. How many do i realistically need in each age range per baby?

Our ds only had one per size. However he wasn't a sicky baby and we swaddled until 6mo so one bag from IKEA from 6mo. He is nearly two and we've just bought a second one in the next age up.

We had shit loads of swaddling Muslins though!

Smaller ones 4/5 of each size due to puke/poo incidents (per child)

Once dd got over a year, these were much less common so got away with 2/3 of each

Have a look at babasac as they have adjustable tog ratings so don't need seperate summer and winter bags

When DS was a little baby, I had 4 as poosplosions were more common! We don't have a tumble drier though so I needed the cushion of always have one spare even if one was taking ages to dry. If you have a drier you might get away with fewer, but I'd say you always want to have at least two clean at a time in case of epic poohing nights.

Now he's a bit bigger I have two on rotation, his poohs are more noxious but less unruly

I've always had two per size so I don't need a same-day turnaround when washing them. You could try one each plus a shared spare one, if you washed them on different days?

We got most of ours from TK Maxx, they usually have a good range of branded bags at a great price, but I notice a lot more are available in supermarkets, M&S etc now.

Ds is 6 months. I have 2 x 2.5 tog in age 6-12 months. 1 x 1.7 tog and a 1 tog. Doubt he'll use the second 2 at all now it's getting colder.
Primary do some lovely 2.5 tog ones for £8

Bear in mind twins are likely to be smaller than average so might be below the minimum weight limit for a few weeks.

People really have 4/5 in each size??!

We had one in 0-6m and now I've 3 in 6-18m - 1 lightweight that's just gone away for next spring and 2 in heavyweight because I bought own then found one I liked more!

I had one at a time for DS1, he was very rarely sick and didn't tend to poo at night. But this time round with DS3, one is proving not to be enough as he's constantly being sick, so I'm about to buy another one. I guess if you had regular leaky nappies you might need three to have a spare for the middle of the night, but I'd wait until you know how your babies are with leaks and so on rather than buying stuff you don't need.

I've got away with just having one for each season and size, but they dry in a couple of hours where I live because the climate is dry and warm. If I had a sicky baby , one that pooed during the night, or they didn't dry quickly after washing I'd get two.

Two in each size. We found what eurochick said was the case...tiny 6lb baby so had to wait for him to put on a couple of lbs! He was probably about 6 weeks before I put him in one, however if I had another tiny I'd just check their head didn't fit through the hole which I think is why they have the weight limit?? His head was spot on 50th centile so we'd probably have been fine from the start actually. Never got on well with blankets or swaddling as he was too fidgety!

We only had two 1tog at the start as she was born in May. She went straight into gro bags. Now she is in the next size we have two 1 togs and 1 2.5 tog.

Some babies hate them so I would only buy a couple until you're sure they are ok in them. Easy to buy more later than waste money now.

I was wondering what do you do if the baby is too small to put in a sleeping bag? We've got two moses baskets as well as 2 cotbeds but we're going to put them in the same cot for the first bit.

When DS was little we used blankets, feet at the bottom of the cot and tucked really well in. I guess you could top and tail twins as long as the cot wasn't at an angle?

We had 2 in 0-6, and about 8 in 6-12 size but only as we were given them as gifts - I'd probably only have bought 2 or so.

Haven't used them since then as it was too warm all through the summer and now she's 14 months and has a little duvet.

With DC 1 I bought 0-6 month sizes but it took until he was 2 months old to fit into them properly. This time I bought newborn (0-3).

My DTs were big when born but they were still too small for the 0-6 months size for a while. When they were big enough I think we had four 2.5togs bags - so two each -but no 1tog bags as it wasn't warm enough whilst those fitted. Then in the 6-18 month size we had four 2.5 togs, four 1.0 togs and we also had two 0.5 togs that did a warm holiday and some warm summer nights in the UK. Although born 'big' they were steady growers and that size lasted until they were nearly two when they switched to duvets and beds.

We used grosnugs which are suitable from newborn. Had two of those then various 0-6 month ones secondhand from nct sales/family. Now have 2 6-18 month ones.

In terms of sharing, our two were side by side (lying 'wrong way' across the cot) when first born but not close together. Then they were 'feet to foot' at either end so both heads to the middle of the cot. They went in separate cots at 5 months as they were both rolling too much by that point.

My twins are still in one cotbed , they are 2.8 but small. One thing you have to be careful of is if they are still together when they use a 6-18 grobag. They are very long and can flip over the other twins face.

We usually have 2 on the go, just in case, although I had a pack of 3 of the newborn swaddle ones we used. I don't buy them too far in advance though as it depends on the seasons and how big baby is. Also depends on how sicky and pooey baby is and what your washing and drying facilities are!

With my twins I had 2 each in the different sizes. So four 0-6 months, four 6-18 months and four 18 months to 4 years. I would recommend JoJo Maman Bebe sleeping bags.

My twins were 5lbs and we swaddled them initially and used blankets. They went into sleeping bags at about 9 weeks.

Blankets for the first 8-12 weeks maybe?

Then we only needed 2 bags in each size for DS1 - one to use, one to wash. Luckily we were given a variety, different togs for different seasons for example.

Also, DS2 is a puker, so I'm very glad we have more now!

Two in each size often one a summer one do would alter layers underneath depending on season and tog
