Child flying alone

How old would your child have to be for you to allow them to fly alone if they had to? for example to visit their parent in a different country

What could airlines do that would give you peice of mind whilst your child travels alone?

Dd flew with Emirates and they were great, had own lounge etc. I think it's from age five.
