Am I being miserable and unreasonable?

Next door's little boy obviously likes football and spends hours kicking his ball against their garage wall. I have nothing against children playing in the garden but the regular thudding of the ball hitting the wall is pretty disturbing. It is a bit like having workmen outside your house banging in a post with a sledgehammer except that they will only be there temporarily rather than permanently.

I have thought about speaking to the parents but I suspect such conversations rarely go smoothly as people hate them or their offspring being criticised.

So my question to this forum is am I being miserable and unreasonable or do I have a reasonable complaint and if so how should I handle it without causing upset of confrontation?
