What are the things you have heard yourself saying/thinking that you never thought you would?

I do not enjoy the baby stage, even less so the toddler stage... much prefer them 3+

I was up for the 3rd time with DS2 (21 months) last night (he's a bit under the weather). As I picked him up, he clamped his arms around me, snuggled himself into me and gave me a big hug and I found myself thinking...

"Ahhhhh, I love this age. They don't argue with you, give you back chat, they think you are the best thing in the whole world and you don't have to worry about where they are, who they are with, what they are doing, or who is bullying them"

Didnt think I'd ever find myself thinking this, especially in the middle of the night

What have you thought or said that has caught you by surprise?

I wish my 19 month old didn't argue with me!!! He doesn't speak much but boy does he strop!!! I caught myself today thinking 'wasn't life easier when all I had to do was decide which outfit to put on and cube of puree to defrost' looking back with rose coloured glasses to when it was just me and baby DS1 (although if you had told me I had it easy at the time, I would have argued strongly!)

mollymawk · 26/01/2007 21:27

The most surprising thing I found about my babies was how interesting they were, right from the beginning. I wasn't expecting that!

almost everything i think and do catches me by surprise tbh... im a complex creature, you see.

either that or mentally unstable.

not sure theres much of a difference tho...

frenziednester · 26/01/2007 21:33

oooh, I'm with you, kama!! I am pg with no3, and caught myself yesterday thinking 'maybe I want 4' even though it has been a crap pregnancy and DH sprinted for the vasectomy clinic when I showed him the little stick and blue lines , so I guess that's just a mad hormonal fantasy......

munz · 26/01/2007 21:34

ahem, when i'm eating something real nice and j's eyeing it up lovingly - not that he understands but I say 'no it's not nice - will give u nightmares!' really awful thing to say really, mum used to say teh same thing to us when she was eating something she didn't want us to have! lol.

also everytime he gives me a big hug, I'm dead chuffed but also that one day he won't want to.

kbaby · 26/01/2007 21:51

That cuddling up in bed with my 2 1/2 yr old and smelling her freshly washed hair is wonderful even if she is like an octopus and wriggles too much

Hi kama; ds1 is nearly 3 and a half and ds2 is 19 months - how about you?

frenziednester · 27/01/2007 15:19

oh, and I am a very forgetful 30 weeks....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/01/2007 15:23

In answer to "why?" "Because I say so."

poppiesinaline · 27/01/2007 15:35

My dd's 1 and has only started saying 'mama'. I neary cried because she came over while I was at the sink, put her arms around one of my legs and said 'aaah, mama' I was amazed that I felt like I had known her forever, even the first time I held her.

DetentionGrrrl · 27/01/2007 17:14

'Shall we try for another baby then?'

DS is 7mths...i must be mad. And very excited!

sorkycake · 27/01/2007 17:27

You'll have someone's eye out with that!

eemie · 27/01/2007 17:47

'you're a lovely wee cat aren't you?' to the cat.

Never in a million years thought I'd have a cat in the house much less like it.

Caught myself dropping a kiss on the top of her head the other day

carlsberg · 27/01/2007 17:49

Don't do as I do,do as I tell you!

frenziednester · 27/01/2007 20:19

Today I honestly caught myself saying 'if you fall off that and hurt yourself, don't come crying to me.....' - I am a walking cliche...........:-)

can we try for another baby?

I'd had dd, got depression, lost libido and vowed never to have another baby. Until my friend told me I was a selfish cow and to deprive dd of a sibling just because I got depression last itme was wrong and I would regret it later on, as well as being resented by dd. (she had begged for a baby brother or sister like 'everyone else')
Ds is 16 mths and is the best thing I have ever done...he has amazingly made our lives complete, my marriage has never been better, dd is a wonderful big sister and it's all because some gobby friend of mine told me to stop being a selfish bitch and think of someone else.

frenziednester · 28/01/2007 22:07

Hi Kama, I'm 31 weeks now..... starting to get the pregnancy waddle thing going on!
