Offering formula fed baby water in this heat?

She is 5 months. Is it necessary to offer cool boiled water in this heat? Very hot here today or is her formula enough. She's alert and plenty of wet nappies and is drinking a lot of milk.

Trust your own instincts. Mums I know always offer water too especially in summer.

FuzzyOwl · 19/07/2016 11:33

Yes, I would offer water.

HopeArden · 19/07/2016 11:36

I gave my dc water alongside milk. I did it when bf and ff. I know bm is supposed to be a drink as well as food but I figured it's nice to have a change.

Ok.
How much water would you offer though?
As I heard too much is bad for babies?
First time clueless mum here...

Little and often, she will spit it out if she dosent want it.

Onionringo · 19/07/2016 11:53

I did on hot days when my first was about five months. Just a few sips every now and then.

Go with you gut
I would offer it and allow baby to take what she wants.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/07/2016 12:04

She'll take what she wants.

I offer cold weak chamomile tea (just a tea bag left to sit in some cold boiled water for a while before offering) I find this hydrates and helps with teething pain and general heat induced grumpiness!

shartsi · 19/07/2016 12:40

Of course you can give water after all you use water to mix the formula milk.

GrassW1dow · 19/07/2016 13:49

I wouldn't bother boiling it first either. I didn't when i offered water at around 5 months. Most people have stopped sterilising bottles by 5 months I reckon.

Timetogrowup2016 · 19/07/2016 16:43

Thanks,
She won't take any but is taking her milk.
I think the advice is to sterilise until a year and you don't bred to boil water after six months (hv told me)

Try watered down formula. It won't harm for a few days. I'm making up the formula with a couple of fewer scoops as it seems to sit on the stomach a little easier in the heat, otherwise I can't get proper amounts of milk into her.

And I've stopped sterilising as it turns out I was doing it wrong anyhow. Hot soapy water is good enough.

GrassW1dow · 20/07/2016 19:31

in France, I don't think many people sterilise bottles full stop....

HelloCanYouHearMe · 20/07/2016 21:39

My HV laughed at me when i asked whether i could stop sterilising at 11 months.

She told me there is not much point after 6months - as soon as they are crawling about and putting toys in their mouth there isnt much point.
