8 week injections

My little girl has her 8 week injections tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what happens and if it is as bad as I'm worrying about? A friend is going to come with me - do you think that will be ok?

Mine had his last Wednesday. He screamed when the needles went in, was a bit unsettled afterwards & cried quite a bit through the afternoon/evening. He normally only cries when hungry & is generally a very happy baby! Had a bit of a temperature but gave him calpol & he slept it off. Be brave, it's worth it for them not to get poorly!

My DS cried when the injections went in but was fine after a few seconds. Remember to take calpol with you. My HV said to give all 3 doses (each one 4-6 hrs apart) even if baby seems OK. Apparently 60% of babies get a fever following the injection and calpol is meant to reduce this. Luckily DS was OK after his.

The injections clearly of weren't pleasant but DD had stopped crying before I even got her dressed again to leave. She didn't have any fever but, as said above, you need to give Calpol regardless as a preventive measure.

They really aren't that bad and infinitely better than being poorly.

Mine also screamed, poor thing, and was very unsettled afterwards. He wasn't interested in his food and the first night he woke up every hour.
I'm dreading the next lot at 12 weeks as he's usually such a contented baby and I hate seeing him in pain.

Presse speak to your own doctor/ health advisor re calpol. It shouldn't be given 'just in case'.

I hate needles and was worried my fear would rub off on my lo. My DP came for all her jabs and held her while I turned my head away. She screamed but was quickly soothed with a bottle we had brought for just that purpose. She's 20 months now and has had all her jabs, the same scenario at each one and quickly forgotten, although we replaced the bottle with raspberries for the later ones. Follow the advice you are given on the day in relation to paracetamol but we were told to keep an eye for raised temp and give it if needed.

Hope it goes ok today OP. My little one also screamed at the injection but soon calmed, she was cranky for about 24 hrs but nothing major. As others have said, so much better than if she got poorly.

The nurses all told me not to give Calpol after vaccinations unless they actually get a temperature. I had heard this previously also

There is new advice regards paracetamol after the new men B vaccine - this is in coffeelover's post above. OP please get advice from the practice nurse tomorrow.

Not bad at all, DS cried for a little bit but got over it quickly. Make sure you don't show the little one you're stressed out and they'll be fab. DS had a little bit of a raised temperature but nothing major. Our nurse strongly advised Calpol, he had it right before his jabs and four hourly afterwards. Good luck!
