Baby pooping loads after starting solids

Is this normal? DD is 6.5 mo, and we have been gradually increasing solids for the last 2-3 weeks. At first her bowels slowed right down and she only pooped once in the first week (though when she did, it was not constipated). She is eating porridge (oats), fruit, veg, small amounts of chicken and cheese. Now she is pooping about 6x/day (including overnight). She is breastfed, and prior to starting solids, she would poop about 2-3x/day. I really hope that it settles down, as I was really hoping to use cloth nappies, but I can't face it with all of this poop!!!

She's pooing more because her body hasn't learnt to digest the new foods yet. As her gut matures it'll lessen. Smile

It's normal and will take her digestive system a while yet to mature.

Thanks! I've become obsessed with her bowels! Grin

Yes we're going through this too. This gross. And annoying at 2am. You could use cloth nappies with liners if you find it too much. We just scrape them off

This is my life right now. No advice, just another voice chiming in to say this is normal.

Six times a day was average for my dd when weaning too. With ds doing 2 a day at least I think I had one day where I changed 10 pooey nappies! I'm glad for disposable tbh, my washing pile would be horrendous. Her bowels have settles into 2/3 poos a day now- she's 11 months.

Glad it's not just me! It's so annoying though, as it keeps waking her up in the night!

Us too. Although DS is nearly 9mo, so we've been dealing with it for a few months. He swings between being a bit bunged up (when his favourite place to poo is on the changing mat with his legs in the air) or pooing after every time he eats or has milk. I don't remember this with DD - although DS has taken to solids with massive enthusiasm, where as she started more gradually.

Teeth might be a factor too? My daughter is just 6 months and about a fortnight into weaning was pooing 4 times a day but really watery yellow poo. Then a tooth appeared. She had just had another bout of horrid poo and is dribbly so I think another one is on the way.
I have just started on cloth nappies and they really arenMt that bad!!
