I was at the doctors waiting room recently when a woman came in with her baby daughter. It was a cold day and she was rugged up with a woolly hat on. The receptionists were cooing over her, and one mentioned her ear was folded forward under her hat. The mum quickly fixed it, saying "Oh dear, what a bad mummy I am."

I thought to myself "Why? Did you do it on purpose?"

Why do we do that to ourselves? Bad enough that we are judged harshly by others sometimes, but then we turn on ourselves!?

I say it all the time to myself, even though I know it's completely ridiculous. I have no idea why, because rationally I think I'm a pretty good mum, all things considered But it still doesn't stop me criticising myself and my decisions 10 times a day.

I saw my cousin doing it when she visited while I was pg. It really grated on me, and so I was absolutely determined never ever to say it out loud to ds. I think it all the time, but never say it!
