Nanny arrangements when travelling?

I don't know what category I'm supposed to put this in but there was no suitable category in "Childcare".

I'm pregnant with No. 1 and we plan to employ a full-time Nanny/Housekeeper (more accurately a Mothers Help as I will not be working/at home most of the time).

We'd expect she (or he!) to travel with us when we go on holiday - what is the nanny's sleeping arrangement? Does she have her own room or sleep with the children in a separate/interconnecting hotel room from us? (Before anyone asks - she will have her own floor in the house with own bathroom during normal day-to-day life. I'm asking specifically about holidays)

Also - hours worked on holiday... I was thinking 6-10am and then 7-11pm. Is that reasonable? She'd then have 9 hours during the day to do as she pleases. (Again these are holiday hours and different from the norm)

I'm the first in my friendship group to have a child so really have no one else to ask. Any advice on holiday work schedules and sleeping arrangements will be really helpful!

I think you won't know until you've met the baby and nanny. If travelling when the baby is young are you expecting the nanny to go into your room at 11pm to put the baby in with you to do all the night wakings and then come back into your room to get them at 7am (mine didn't sleep solidly between those hours until she was about 18 months and it's still hit and miss).

I am a nanny when I travel with my family is got my own room in the villa and at the hotel. I work shorter hours generally 7-9 and then 1-3 and maybe 5-10/11 but don't babysit every evening sometimes it's just help with dinner. You don't have to take the nanny on holiday and at least 4 weeks of the year you won't have the nanny so often easier to go then

I think you need to wait and see. You might surprise yourself and not want to take the nanny with you and so just go when she takes her holidays.

I agree with the advice to wait until the baby's here. You can just put in the contract that you expect the nanny to accompany you on some holidays and that hours will differ from normal and be agreed nearer the time.
