Is my 2.9 year old capable at his tender age of being taught to pee standing up?

We are 9 days into toilet training and he is doing just fine.

However he sits on the loo to pee, resulting in a fine aeriel display of urine cascading rather artfully around the room.

I have asked dh to teach him how to pee standing up (with the aid of a step stool). Dh expressed misgivings about ds' age and whether he was too young to learn this, and suggested that I consult Mumsnet!

yes

he will enjoy target practise too.

ds did this from the first, aged 2.5. does both now depending on whether there is poo in the offing or not.

Excellent - dh can't wriggle out of this one then!

yes, do it (rather, get him to do it). Much more fun in summer when you can wee into the bushes, of course... (That's what got dh into potty training, tbh, seeing his slightly older friend doing a 'garden wee'>)

A latew reply but wanted to add my experiences incase they are helpful to you.

My DS started off sitting down on the loo, and I just repeatedly told him to hold his willy down when weeing, and showing him how to at first. He soon got the point and dutifuly did this every time. Then as soon as he was tall enough to stand and pee he reverted to this method himself (at about 2.9 years)without being tought or shown (I'm a single mum). He also figured he needed to hold it down if going for a stand-upmidnight pee after a few showers over the loo seat lid! . I don't think your ds is too young to learn this, and it might be a good idea to teach him to hold it down for the times when he is sitting on the loo!
