best child thermometer

so after a scary incident when DS had a febrile seizure we need to get a new thermometer and turning to MN for advice...
We used to have an ear thermometer but even before the battery died and rendered it useless because it wasn't a replaceable battery I was never 100% confident it was giving a good reading because as per instructions we never relied on 1 reading and it would give some wild variations...
What kind do you use and any particular brand recommendation? About to have another baby so something that works for all family - newborns and toddlers as well as adults?

Our Drs and local hospital ( kids respiratory ward and a&e at least) use Braun or Tommy teepee (sp?) ear thermometers. They also used underarm ones in hospital but I don't know the brand.
I have a braun ear one and it has replaceable batteries. Vaguely recall instructions saying to leave switched on at room temp a while before actually using, but I haven't. I do let dd help me take my temp first every time though ( otherwise she won't let me do hers. You can't turn the beep off which is annoying, but I've found the temp to be consistent which I suppose is the main thing!

Not the boots forehead one. Gives us way off readings.

any other views on the forehead ones - look very easy to use but sceptical as to how well they work and seems to be borne out by minty's comment

We have one that does ear, forehead and room. The key thing is to get a backlight on the screen so you can use it at night. I was surprised how few had one.

DD was in hospital with a fever at one week old and we asked dr there what was best. He said the basic underarm digital ones for £5 in the pharmacy. That's essentially what they use in hospital and he believed it to be the most accurate. Our non contact head/ear one didn't pick up DD's fever (I did by touch) so I threw it out and only use the cheap underarm one now.

We have the Braun one that the hospital uses. My partner has cancer and if he has a temp above 38 we have to go straight to hospital and it's been accurate everytime we use it. Just order plenty of lens filters on amazon.
