Dropped my 3 wk old baby & feeling guilty :(

So I was carrying my 3 wk old daughter yesterday and DH started talking to me so I swung round but I tripped over a tile and dropped her on the kitchen floor! we were both petrified - I've never dropped any of the kids before so i rushed to a&e only to find out she has a swollen cheek and eye! I feel so guilty and like an irresponsible mum. She is fine now, but I still feel so bad. Any other mums done this?

my ds (9 weeks) is a wriggler and has started doing his best 'wooden plank' impression. I worry all the time that either dh or I will. I worry even more with the gps who aren't used to him

Yes! With all of them . It's obviously not ideal but unfortunately it happens. I remember crying hysterically at 3am in A&E with my first, only to be told by the lovely nurse who saw my DC that she had done the same thing with all of hers and 'not to worry my lovey'. I do remember those awful feelings of guilt and terror though but please don't beat yourself up. The one piece of advice I always give new mums (not that I go around handing out annoying advice believe me!) is to just be so careful with changing mats, beds etc. One minute the little monkeys can't move a muscle and the next they're rolling about all over the place. It really really is that quick and they never think to tell you that tomorrow they'll be able to roll over and slide of the bed . Just be kind to yourself, learn from it and have a very large glass of x

Not yet but I have no doubt that I will at some point!!

Every single person I know has dropped their baby / had them roll off the bed/changing unit at some point

Sorry my post sounded like I've dropped all my babies! I haven't, I just meant that I've dropped one and the others have had little bumps here and there trying to stand or roll etc. Lord that PP sounded terrible!

My DH fell down about 5 stairs and let go of our baby (can't remember how old - maybe a month?). We called NHS direct but they just asked a few questions and we didn't take her in. She's 7 now and fine. I still remember his wail when he did it. How pull you got lots of reassurance at A&E.

I dropped my baby on his head when he was a week old. It was the first time id been out by myself with him and i had tried to get my keys out of my bag whilst carrying him to open the door (he was screaming so id picked him up out of his pram) and he wrigled out of my arms and fell headfirst on the patio!! I was screaming and rang an ambulance.... but he was completely fine. Didnt even have a bruise. But i remember sobbingly telling my partner that he needed to adopt him because i was an unfit mother and i was just going to go and live in scotland by myself because i didnt deserve a child etc etc......
I rang my mum and she was like 'yeah i dropped you on your head all the time, you once fell down a whole flight of stairs'
Hes learning to walk now so he falls all the time and thats just what babies do!

I didnt drop DD, but I did bash her head on a door frame as we walked past when she was tiny, I was cradling her and misjudged the space and her head got knocked. She was fine, I felt awful!

I never actually 'dropped' dd1. I have, however, shut he finger in the window and locked it before she howled, that was a few months old. I also left her upstairs on our gigantic bed, next to her cot (that was bolted into our bed) heard a huge thud to find shed rolled all the way across and off the bed.

There are so many others. I also recently locked her in my car in the middle of winter after a fireworks show at about 10pm and had to get someone to drive me 30mins home and back to get the spare keys while 2 police officers watched her in the car with a promise to break the window if she was too distressed! She was really upset when I finally opened the car and I felt sick with guilt. The pc gave her his torch which is now a prized possession accompanied with the obligatory 'the police gave me this when mummy locked me in the car'

Lots of accidentally bashing heads against door frames here. We're not angels! We're sleep deprived! Forgive yourself!

I know it's is a bit of a cliche but this is one of those things you will laugh about when she's a teenager.

She's fine, just have lots of extra cuddles.

Pocketsized I did that too. Wheeling a bath/changing station combo from bedroom to bathroom. We had been away. He fitted through the door tucked into my arm before we went but thumped his head on our return. Oops!
He's 13 and fine!

The vicar dropped my godson at his christening! He almost landed in the font but dh somehow caught him!
I've also clonked both dc heads on various doorframes after misjudging the gap and had them roll off the bed.
Luckily babies bounce!

I dropped DS1 out of his moses basket when he was 2 weeks old, the handle slipped and he just gently rolled out and hit his head on the door frame. I was hysterical, he was fine, if a bit bemused as to why he wasn't snug in his basket anymore. I never carried the basket by it's handles again though

I also let dgd roll off the dining table when she was about 6 months old, I took my eye off her for literally 10 seconds to reach for a nappy and she was gone. We did take her to a&e, but that was more for me than her, I couldn't stop crying I felt so bad. The doctor said he rarely dealt with such smiley patients as she giggled at him the whole time.

This is why babies have soft bones - so they bounce when you drop them!

Mine rolled off the changing mat when I literally bent down to chuck nappy in bin. Went to a&e and was fine, not even a bruise!

My sister had a c-section and a few hours later had her new born in her arms when he slipped out think she might have drifted off and landed on her slippers! She leapt out of bed to scoop him up and he didn't even cry!
