Day off school for birthday

Would you/do you do this? My friend gave her child the day off for her birthday - I personally don't do it. I think my children like to see the friends at school on their birthday, plus they like to take in some cake to share.
I wondered if it was quite typical!

I know a few people who do it, it always seems a bit odd and I doubt the school approve. I don't think I'd do it, but it's never going to be an issue for me as I only have one child and her birthday falls on a date that will never be a school day.

My one child has a day off school every year - he is born in August 😀😀.
He's actually quite sad he doesn't go to school and see his friends.

My other children go/went to school on their birthdays.
I agree with you OP quite unnecessary.

One of my sons was very unhappy at school, and suffered low level, but constant bullying due to his appearance. So he usually got the day off on his birthday, as I wanted him to have an un spoilt day. Thankfully his birthday sometimes fell during the holidays.
The other 2 boys were happy to go to school on their birthdays, but they had a different experience of school, and friends there.
So I would say it depends on the child.

The only time I kept one off for a birthday was the year we got a zoo keeper for a day experience but couldn't get a weekend so went for a Monday. It was marked down as educated off-site and it wasn't her actual birthday by that stage.

Generally though, no - absolutely not.

Absolutely wrong! Presumably they are a family where people take days off work for their birthdays which I also don't understand.

glad to know I'm not alone in thinking it shouldn't happen! its my little boys birthday next week on a school day, and he's going in as usual!

I wouldn't but maybe not qualified to say as both of mine have August birthdays! My daughter who is 7 always says she would like her birthday at school because you miss out on celebrations at school!

This year will be the first year one of mine has a birthday on a school day but it's the last day of term so she's happy to go on and play with her mates (and be a bossy birthday queen I suspect!). However if they weren't happy going to school I'd probably sort something out - I take the day off for my birthday.

My DS always has the day off school for his birthday. He's a Christmas holiday baby

There's no way i'd keep him off if his birthday was in term time. I don't let DD have the day off and she loves it when her birthday falls at the weekend.

one of mine was often on camp with cubs/scouts on his birthday as they went away for a week camp at the start of the summer holls
