2 yr old - Nightime Nappy Nightmare

I'm pretty desperate for some advice or just comfort really, the issue being my 2 year old who has been dry for about 3 months now, keeps waking in the night insisting we change her nappy.

The problem is this happened last night 8 times!!

I don't think the nappy feels wet on her skin as such, just that she is aware that she has done a wee.

I am wondering if I should perhaps try and lift her, however tried this last week and she became hysterical.

She has also just dropped her afternoon nap, what with that and the nighttime waking she is just miserable all day.

Please can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks so much...

perhaps she is ready to go without a nappy at night? How wet is she by morning?

girlsmum · 14/01/2007 21:30

Well, not very wet because I have changed her nappy up to 8 times in any one night.

Not sure she is ready to go without because she is crying after she has done a wee not before.

I'm not really sure what advice anybody can give me to be honest, its a nightmare. Just anyone who has been in the same situation who can reassure me would be great.

I am surprised she is weeing 8 times a night - perhaps cutting down on drinks before bed would help. Do you take her to the toilet before you put a fresh nappy on? She might just be doing a tiny bit (enough to wake her up) then stopping. Then doing a bit more when she falls back asleep.

Have you had her checked for a wee infection? Maybe it is hurting when she goes - it would also account for why there isn't very much. Also thrush and even worms can make it sore to wee.

I admire your fortitude. I could'nt cope with getting up in the night 8 times to change a nappy. What sort of night time nappy do you use? I think therein could lie the answer. I'd recommend using a traditional terry nappy kite folded and pinned each side with a nappy pin. For night time use, I'd boost it with another terry nappy pad folded on top, making sure the outer one is tucked up around the legs for containment. This makes a comfy nappy and is great for heavy wetters, so yours should'nt wake up much or little she wees. Good luck.

I should have said however much or little she wees!
