What to expect after 8 week jabs?

My DD is having her jabs this morning. I have googled what to expect but all I can find is threads before they added the meningitis B. The nurse said DD will be getting 3 jabs and 2 oral medications (one of which is calpol)
Also, how long after the first dose of calpol do you wait before the next dose? As the medicine states only 2 doses a day I believe?

If only I could take the jabs on DDs behalf 😔

DS 2 was fine after the 8 week jabs. They suggested to me Calpol every 4 hours, 3 doses, but he only needed two and wasn't bad at all.

The 16 week ones are the ones to watch out for in my experience. He had such a temperature I had him downstairs wailing and stripped off to just a nappy (in December!) in the middle of the night. OK by the morning though.

My DD was mostly fine after all jabs. The 8 week ones were probably her worst, she got a lump on her leg (they say itll go down within 2-3 days but hers was only going down by 16 week jabs!! And she was fine) and was grizzly most of the day but the other two lots were fine really. It is the men B that makes them grizzle.

The jabs made her cry but the nurse I had got them done quickly and we spent the rest of the afternoon with lots of cuddles and her naps on my chest.

You'll get some calpol on prescription and for the day I gave three doses total about 3 hours apart.

They don't like it but they soon forgive us!

It might be worth waiting to see if she actually needs the calpol before giving it.

NHS page says 'if' your baby develops a fever, because not every baby does get side effects.

The wording is AFAIK deliberate, because if research a few years ago which indicates that there is a better immune response if anti-fever drugs are not given.

But of course if a baby is showing signs of being in pain (rather than just a bit hot) or if you have a complicated medical history which means you need individual medical advice not the NHS population-wide version.

(Follow the advice in the pack as if they had reached 3 months for frequency).

Sepa DS was fine during the jabs. A bit of a wiggle but not even too much of a cry! He was soon comforted.

Ds2 didn't seem to get any reaction after his apart from the initial crying. Getting the calpol down was tricky though... stick pink goop everywhere!

Just to add that since the Men B was added the advice is to give the first calpol whether needed or not - giving it advance will prevent the fever. From there see how they go and give if needed.

DS was ok. Slept immediately after, then was grizzly for the rest of the day. I have two doses of calpol (which are meant to be 4-6hrs apart) and the next day he was fine.

Mine has been totally fine after every jab ever. I think people build them up to be more traumatic than they need to be and look for issues that aren't there!

I would go into it expecting a perfectly neutral outcome if I were you.

Dd was fine after.
Was only taking half her normal amount of formula for 24 hours after and very sleepy but she wasn't grizzly or crying at all. Actually it was the only quite day I've had for ages- she's a constant screamer.
Advice for calpol since men b was introduced is to give calpol as soon as possible afterwards and not to wait and see if fever develops.
I was told three doses (four-six) hours after each other.

Very slight temperature for DS and was more sleepy than usual. The main thing was the bruising and swelling on his legs that worried me!

It completely depends on the baby. My oldest got a high temp for 3 days and because it wasn't coming down, he was hospitalised for the night. Don't want to frighten you though, he was absolutely fine and just the way his body reacted and made antibodies! He had calpol every 6 hours. After the 3 days, he was right as rain again. Happened after the subsequent vaccinations but I just stayed on top of his calpol (and gave nurofen too, I believe) and he was ok.

My youngest didn't have a single symptom, no calpol needed and you wouldn't have know she had had them.

I waited 6 hours between doses.

Mine had a very mild fever for about 12 hours. I even took her to baby group. She was fine, just felt warm!

She has just had them. I didn't go in worried about the jabs just more to see what I should look out for. DD took them like a trooper but we did have some tears. She is now asleep on me which is where she will remain for as long as she needs to

My DS had absolutely no reaction at all to any of his jabs so far. And he only cried for a few seconds. More traumatic trying to get him to take the calpol

So DD has reflux and has just thrown up her food and her 3rd dose of calpol (of which she probably only swallowed half)
God knows how I will do one in 4hrs if she needs it!

Did you feel like she needed the third dose?

For the injections it's a maximum of three recommended so you should be done now - honestly she won't be suffering and she'll have forgotten all about it by the morning.

Sepa how is your dd this morning? Ds also had his 8 week injections yesterday. He had a slight temperature last night and was very unsettled. The injection sites look red this morning. At least that is it over with for four weeks.

If she is having the meningitis B she might get a bit of fever. I have been told to give her calpol twice more (after they give her the first dose at the clinic) even if just preventive. The gap between doses has to be at least 4 hours, i always gave mine at 6 hours interval. My lo did have a bit of fever and the calpol cooles it down for about 5, 6 hours usually. She will get a lamp in her tigh but that's common and normal and the nurse said ixt van take up to 3 months to fade, same with the second MenB shot, except you use calpol only if need as is not that bad second time. If your DD carries on having fever use calpol twice next day , you have to phone the GP after 2nd day. Shell also want more feeds as they need to stay hydrated

I didn't give her the last dose as she spat it out and the threw up on me so I just left it and decided to see what she was like at 1:30. She was pretty much the same, just got upset when I tried to burp her.

Now just have to get through the next lot in 4 weeks time.

How is you DS mercury

With the 8 week ones my DD had a temp on and off for a couple of days, and was comfort feeding a lot and then throwing some of her milk up. She was a bit grumpy too.

She's getting her 12 week ones this wed, although she will be 15 and a half weeks by then, but she had a cold for a few weeks so had to postpone them until now. Fingers crossed it goes ok!
