buggy board for 4.5 year old?

Ds will be 4.5 when ds2 is born and starting school at the same time the same week infact I don't drive so getting home from school is going to be hard going I think. It's about a 25 min walk home if its cold or raining its going to be miserable so I was thinking if getting a buggy board to see us through the winter, its mostly downhill so should be easy for me to push down gets us home quickly, especially if we have to go anywhere en route home.

He's 19kg just now don't know if he's going to be too big?

Could your child ride a scooter? Mine rides a scooter sometimes and it's a 20 min walk for us. She has been dong this since 3.5 years. My son who is 2 also rides the scooter sometimes for the 20 min school run, but of course I still bring a double buggy in addition bc they r young and if it rains or the younger one gets tired. If it's just my elder one I take only scooter for both of us. U could try scooter and buggy board and see? But how big is the hill?

Dd is 4.3 and 18kg. She's not too big for the buggy board. I would get one - they do get tired. They take up no space.

Buggy boards are great and I think that age/weight is still ok. But I would warn you that downhill is actually tricker than up in my experience. Uphill you can push buggy ahead at arms length and have lots of stride room. Down I always feel like I'm tripping on board.

Oops didn't finish there. And downhill the weight can feel like its running away with you so you end up having to kind of pull back. Really tiring. Depends how much of a slope you are talking about.

Its a very long hill about 7/8 mins to wall down it but not a huge slope, ive pushed a friends kids on the buggy board before its not to bad... Ds rides his scooter pretty much everywhere but if hes tired hes not keen on it. Its mostly the bad weather we live in a village at the foot of a range of hills so when its cold its cold and not much shelter at all it would be easier if he could pop on and cut time down.

I'm also aware usually when hes tired I pull him on his scooter but with the pram it wont work, with the shock of suddenly being at school and having a new baby around I don't want him to feel left out in the cold (pun intended)

In a similar situation to yours OP, we borrowed and used a buggy board and it was a complete lifesaver.
DD found the first few weeks of school utterly exhausting and wouldn't even scooter home from school.

She was much happier on the buggy board, eating a snack and chatting as I strolled home. And it was great in the mornings when we needed to get in on time not having to hassle her all the way to walk faster.

DD dropped it in favour of her scooter by the middle of the spring term off her own bat. The only rule I did have was that if she chose to get off the buggy board, she didn't get back on it in the sane journey.

I have nailed this. I use a 3 wheeler, jogger type pushchair for my 1 year old and my 4 year old sits on the little bit above the wheel. Worked well with the Out n about and now with my BOB. Comfy for him as well as brilliant when I need to get anywhere in a hurry and when his legs are tired. He tends to sit on there all the time to be honest. He just holds on to the side and it's like a seat, people even comment about what a great invention the pram is and I have to tell them it isn't actually made for that.
When better is when it's raining as I just pull the rain cover over him too and his feet stick out!

Btw, the Bob even has a built in triangle bit above the front wheel that fits his bum perfectly so it's actually like a proper comfy seat

We use a buggy board, it goes up to 25kgs (lascal mini) so should definitely be OK. We also do a fair few hills in our travels and I personally don't find it a struggle strength-wise but did find it a bit hairy control-wise as you feel the whole thing could get away from you too easily if anything happened (stumble/trip, for eg) so I got a decent buggy leash - the kind used for joggers - and it's made a world of difference!
