I'm going to Paris on Friday, and whilst checking I had everything sorted, I realised that I'm missing a translation card. I have a nut allergy, and want to be able to show someone this:

"Does this contain nuts?"

I can speak a little French, but I'm not confident enough to rely soly on my translation, IYSWIM!

Many thanks.

Ce produit contient-il des noix ?
Careful though, 'noix' is not a generic term in French, it refers to walnuts. So you might want to ask as well if it contains 'cacahuètes' (peanuts), 'noisettes' (hazelnuts), 'amandes' (almonds)...

Othersideofthechannel · 24/01/2007 20:39

I've got a packet of French biscuits here and the allergy information refers to: "arachide" which is the technical term for peanuts, although everyone I know over here calls them "cacahuètes" and "fruits à coque" which is all other nuts, literal meaning is fruits in a shell.

PizPizPiz · 26/01/2007 17:56

We use arachide most of the time but it's a false generalisation, an arachide is also a type of nut. Confusing, I know ...
