[feeling sick]

Ooh I wish I could get these nerves under control... I am going to forget everything

I have learnt about Schemas, aggressive behaviour, Cognitive learning theory, & lots more stuff....but I know when it comes to turning it into essay answers tomorrow I will freak out..like a stupid woman!

Anyone offer me any words of wisdom??

not many words of wisdom particularly as I'm not great in exams...but stay calm and focused, and try not to worry...you can only do your best

Good Luck xx

beckybrastraps · 09/01/2007 17:30

Ooh. Some of those words look very familiar...

My useless first year tutor did give me one useful piece of advice for exams. SHe said that if you usually drink lots of tea or coffee when revising, you should have a small one before you go in and not do the exam caffeine-less. I have half a cup of coffee before my exams, not enough to make me need to nip out to the loo, but enough to fire up the brain.

I am also very strict about time. I know beforehand how long each question should take, and I stick to it, even if I haven't finished, 'cos I know I could waffle on forever and answer one question when three are required. I have 10 minutes "in hand" to finish of anything at the end, and check through my work.

Good luck

By this time tomorrow, it will be over!

SnafuOutOfHiding · 09/01/2007 17:53

Me too, fff - good luck!

Read, read, read the exam paper - and then read it again. Make a little answer plan at the start of each question. Keep to your time limit and leave yourself a few minutes at the end to go over all your answers. And relaaaaaaaax.

(I know I know the answers but will they know I know the answers? That's the question... )

Are you doing a psychology degree Fireflyfairy?

Fireflyfairy2 · 09/01/2007 22:34

Thanks everyone. I put my dd to bed at 7pm & lay on for a wee cuddle... I woke up in my own bed about 20 minutes ago!! Dh said I looked exhausted so he carried me to our room! I can't believe he didn't wake me as I needed to go over the book again!!!!

Yes, I am doing a Journalism & publishing studies & Psychology degree MiaWallace Bloody hard going...

Snafu, best of luck to you too... & I will take everyones advice...especially the coffee one The exam is at 9.30, tol 11.30. 2 questions, so an hour each. Or 55 mins & ten at the end to jot down some points that might make a difference even if I can't elaborate any more on them

How did it go?

What questions did you get?

Hope it went well for you

MarsLady · 10/01/2007 22:26

Well??????? Well???????????

Fireflyfairy2 · 10/01/2007 23:11

Ooh first question:

"Explain how cognition schemas can help us understand stereotyping & prejudice"

"Discuss, with reference to psychological reasons why the Media can influence aggression & Abuse"

EEEEeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk!!! The first one was ok as I had loved doing & learning more about schemas... the bit at the beginning "With reference to psychological reasons" really threw me & I screwed up the second answer..even writing a paragraph that had no relevence whatsoever to the question Had to put an X through it & write IGNORE up the side of it

But hopefully I wrote enough to get me through!!

Thanks for asking, you're all lovely

Think I would have prefered the second question myself, but then I am currently learning about SLT(access course mind not degree)

When do you get your results Fireflyfairy?

Fireflyfairy2 · 11/01/2007 10:36

I had to answer both of them Wallace

Actually there were 8 of them & we had to pick two. Those were the two least threatening!! lol The others were about social groups & when I came home I wish I had've chose that one!!

Good luck in your access course, I did one of those before I went to Uni & loved it! it really gets you into the frame of mind for writing essay for University level.

Think I get my results in May time...

MiaWallace · 11/01/2007 11:28

What access course did you do Fireflyfairy?

I'm currently studying on a social science access course. I did consider applying to study psychology at uni, but after starting a thread on the value of a psychology degree decided against it. Have now applied to study childhood and youth studies

Fireflyfairy2 · 11/01/2007 11:33

My access course was 19th cenury writers, history & media. Hence the Journalism degree The psychology is just a minor. But apparently the psychology part comes in if ever needed to report from court?? I can't really see myself doing anything with my degree..but part of that is fear I think!!

Well done you! How will you cope waiting till May? Almost tore my hair out waiting from October to December lol!

Fireflyfairy2 · 11/01/2007 13:03

Hi!

I'll cope because I have another semester to do & then more exams in May!!! They might be on the site sooner, I can't remember when they were out last year!! But if I fail I get the chance to re-sit in August.

fireflyfairy2 · 13/02/2007 21:46

HI!!!!!

I was wrong about May!! They came today!! & I got 67% so am over the moon!!!!

Thanks for all the help last time girls

I actually only got 55% in the exam, but courseowrk & a good mock interview pulled it up for me

Am averaging at 63 roughly at the minute which if I keep it up will be a 2:1 which I will be ectremely happy with, giving I have 2 children under 5 & a house to keep on top of

Thanks SS

I hope it lasts.. all I need is a 2:1 or 2:2. I know I should be ambitious & go for 1st class... & maybe next year I will feel differently. But a couple of girls in my psyc class tolda me today they had to pull out of full time & do part-time as they couldn't cope with the work load. Left me feeling like I am maybe neglecting some part of my life & being selfish [that'll be the washing & ironing then]
