Discharge from DDs Ear

DD is 14 months and during the night she was tugging at her ear.

About an hour ago it started running with what looks like pus

The NHS website on ear discharge says ear infections (if that's what she had) generally clear up but later says contact GP if any discharge. Typical this happens on Easter Monday!

Nurse MIL isn't answering to get her opinion. Would you contact 111 for this? DD is now sleeping but that's usual for this time of day

When j was young and got ear infections I got copious amounts of antibiotics but I know this isn't the done thjng now.

Discharge generally means the ear drum has perforated I believe, and in my experience they do like to give antibiotics for that. My first experience of it was on boxing day a few years ago- they do like to pick the best times, don't they? I would call 111 to check.

There is a bug going around at the moment. DS had a recurring ear infection for two months and it is now only just clearing up properly on amoxil. We tried drops first but no luck. His ear would ooze for a day, clear up, then switch to other side; rinse and repeat for weeks.

Take to GP and ask for a swab. I didn't want AB to begin with but it's the only thing to have made a difference.

Argh no call back yet would it be totally PFB of me to call again? Guessing a day like this they will be inundated won't they?

I would go to the walkin centrr, they should be open.

Off to google the nearest one, no idea where any are!

Ok apparently these don't exist in Scotland no wonder I had no clue haha

Update:

NHS called back at 3 and we were asked to go to the loca community hospital which has minor injuries and out of hours (literally 3 minutes away; had no idea!)

She's got antibiotics but of course there was drama with that because the pharmacy sent us away with medicines labelled for someone else. It's the correct medication but I'll need to go back tomorrow and get it relabelled as I'm presuming DDs nursery won't give her it. It's a very similar name though so was thinking could I chance it but sure as fate they'll clock on

No nursery wont give her it if it doesnt have her name on, and they should check very closely. You might want to check as some nurserys wont give it until she has been taking it for a certain amount of time, at my nirseryits 24 hours. If you get a new lable tomorrow, it will have tomorrows date on.

No as in she'll need to be home for the first 24 hours. I'm a cm and have the same rule.

My CM is fine as long as they've started treatment. Check with her nursery. But def get the label corrected for them.

Thanks I'll call them tomorrow, she's not in till Wednesday so got some time to play with

We will take the child if they are well enough to be there, we just wont give the medicine incase of a reaction.
