My son is 18 days old and we changed his milk recently to anti reflux milk and now he's constipated do you have any tips on how to help him along ? People are saying give him water but my health visitor advised not to before ? :/ xx thank you

You should see your GP, they might tell you to give water if there's no other alternative which I'm sure it is. HE is too young for water

When did he last go and what was the stool like

If its been too long since last poop your GP may try rectal stimulation or I'm sure there are suppositories but definetley see GP as there's not much you can do, unless you're breastfeeding and maybe some change in diet would help, although constipation is very uncommon in bf babies, mine is bf and she always had runny explosive poops

It's pretty common for breastfed babies not to poo very often as there isn't much waste in breast milk. People think they're constipated but aren't usually.

When my little one was breastfed she only pooped once a week. Doctors aren't usually worried unless it's been 10 days. If your baby's tummy is soft then he's not constipated. My one always has trouble with gas and that often makes her seem constipated but everyone is right - your little one is too young for water. Talk to your health visitor as there are things they may suggest, but unfortunately you may just have to put up with it until is digestive system matures. Talk to your GP. Baby is only constipated if he's passing small solid poops and appears to be in great pain doing so. If that's not the case, then he's likely just still very little :) best of luck x

Is he formula or breast fed? Breast fed babies don't poop as much as there is less waste, and also shouldn't need water.
Formula fed babies can get constipated more easily, try rubbing his tummy in a clockwise direction. Or bending his knees a few times so his thighs press a little on his tummy. Hopefully that will help. If not then yes, a little water is ok if he's formula fed. But just a little - they only have tiny tummies so you want to be filling it with something calorific rather than water really.

In my experience mi bf baby,s milk would go straight to her body. She pooped after each meal for almost 4 months and she's had some escaping when farting as well lol, ( changed so so many nappies, up to 5 a night when newborn lol) I read us actually very common in bf babies. My friends ff dd would go 4 days without going.Everyone is different I suppose
