A little bit of help needed.

DS has just gone into own room.

Which he was in our bedroom we had a cheaper baby monitor, I don't know anything about baby monitors but it did have a function where it would only alert you over a certain level. So we didn't have to listen to DS grunting or Ewan the Sheep on repeat play.

When he went in his own room I had the worst idea ever to get a video monitor. His room is just down the hall (4 bed house). So thought it would save me getting out of bed.

It cost a fortune - a Motorola one - we play lullabies on it but I can hear them!! Currently we are listening to twinkle twinkle or some shit. If I turn it down I wouldn't be able to here DS cry???

Also I actually don't want to watch him sleep I love him but I need sleep too. So I sleep with the video off. So what was the point in this £100.

Someone please help! I just wanted to be alert to a cry not listen to lullabies and watching my child sleep.

I bought a nice expensive video monitor when my son went into his room That was 14 months ago now and I still watch him on it every night

I have the screen off and volume off when I go to bed (as I would hear him if he cried) but when I'm relaxing of an evening I absolutely love seeing him on the monitor all cuddled up with his teddy bears - it's just adorable. Also, if I randomly wake up in the middle of the night I always switch on the monitor, not because I'm worried about him but purely because it makes me happy to look at him

I reckon I'll still have the monitor when he's a teenager

We had the same problem really, white noise meaning the monitor was going off constantly, but couldn't turn the monitor down because then 'wouldn't hear DS'. But we totally do hear him, he can make himself heard. His and our door are ajar and also you will have parents' sonic hearing.
DS is 9 mo and has been in his room without a monitor for about 5 months now.

We had a video monitor and it was brilliant for when my son woke giving him a minute to try and self soothe.. We could easily see if he had his comforter so he'd get back to sleep. Also once he started waking in the morning we could watch him in his cot knowing we didnMt have to get out of bed.

As for the sound.. I often turned the sound off, no need to hear him grunting and I would always wake of he was crying

I found video monitors actually come into their own once children are more mobile so you can see what they are up to and if they have got out of bed etc. I have even continued using mine at much older ages (6 years) as they are great if the child wants to go off and play in their room but you need to get on with something in another part of the house.

Like someone else has posted we have the video on during the evening while we are downstairs and then turn it off when we come to bed and just leave the sound on low enough not to disturb our sleep.

I have a video monitor. I love it. Sometimes DS is awake on a morning but not making much noise, so I can tell straight away if I need to get up soon or if I can go back to sleep as he's still sleeping. Plus if he's crying I can see if he has his dummy and so will likely settle himself or if he's pushed it out of the cot and I need to go in and find it.

I turn the sound off at night and just have it face down (takes a while to load up the video). Our bedrooms are close and I keep the doors slightly open.
