Colds! Colds! & Flu! how can I stop that!

Hello Mums, I am often getting colds and flu from my 2 years old soon. I wasn't raised in the UK so I don't have immunity to all the bugs, but I am really fed up to been so sick when I need to care for my little one. Anyone going through the same? have you found any ways to get rid of the constant colds? Any reply will be deeply welcome. xx

I just google searched for this and your thread came up.

I find not touching my face when out and about, and washing my hands straight away when I get home helps. But hard to do this effectively with kids.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I've had three colds since Xmas. Following with interest as I'm on my knees.

Another one here following this thread - I keep catching the colds dd 9 months brings back from nursery. I've now started taking vitamins for a boost but it's too early to see an impact yet

My sister said cutting down on sugar helped her family - obv this is anecdotal but Google search finds links between sugar and suppressed immune system.

Maybe ask your GP if you could have the flu jab. Also I found that vitamins help especially if you are breastfeeding as the baby takes all the goodness out of you. I still had 2 colds in the last 6 months though

I've had 2 colds since Christmas - my 2yr old brings them home from nursery but all he has is a runny nose, they seem to absolutely floor me.
We are meticulous with tissue disposal and hand washing and get enough vitamins through fruit and veg. It's just an unfortunate seasonal fact of life I'm afraid.
Flu jab will only protect you from actual flu - I'm pregnant and didn't get around to getting one this year even though I was supposed to.

I can't offer any advice just to say I really sympathise. The colds/infections seem never ending. In the last month our dc (2) has had a cold, a bad viral rash, an ear infection followed by chickenpox. At same time I had chest infection. ( pre-dc I was rarely ill).
Now dc has another virus and I have the full blown flu virus. DH and I both work FT so it's hard keeping everything going, and dc loves nursery but just keeps catching stuff. Of course it gives added childcare pressures because nursery won't administer calpol etc indefinitely . We give dc multivitamins and they eat well. Everyone says it'll be much easier at school age and dc will have a strong immune system....we'll see. Watching the replies to your post with interest.

Stop touching your face so often. It is REALLY hard, I didn't realise how much I did until tried to stop. Hand sanitiser is helpful too and don't let your children put their mouths on things like bus seat handles and counters. Kids will pick up everything going and of course share it with you.

You will get more resilient though. Since working in retail my immune system has become a beast. I haven't had a bad cold in a couple of years. Have had two cases of Norovirus though but those cleared quickly too, one of them within 12 hours, the other 2 days. You will find yourself constantly ill for a few months and then suddenly nothing will touch you.
