well, we've finally decided to just go for it! DS is 2yrs and 3mths, good weather is here, he knows when he is about to poo and tells us when he has a dirty nappy.
we will sit on the potty for a while...i know he has to poo but is holding back. when he gets of potty, he pees in his pants a few minutes later.
now on 4th pair of pants this morning!

Help...is this normal...do we just stick with it? how long before we should expect a bit of omprovement?

the only good bit so far is he's really chuffed with his big boys pants!

I think you're doing well, Thats what my ds done did, he just kept wetting yourself. I didn't even try ds after that until he was 3ish. i think the older they are the better it goes. Good luck anyways

he sat on the potty for an hour this morning watching TV and eventually did pee!!! then 5 mins back in pants and wet again by lunchtime I had 8 pairs of pants on the clothes-line!! He sleeps all afternoon, so had nappy on. when he got up, lots more wet pants. have stuck a nappy back on now as i'm tired and need a bit of a break

we'll try again tomorrow, don't want to give up just yet...so fingers crossed.

on the plus side we have got over his fear of the potty/dislike of anything he's not familiar with. At least he doesn't mind sitting on it.
And he find it hilarious watching pee dribbling down his leg (always 2 or 3 minutes after we let him get off the potty).

might need to buy more pants tomorrow (and maybe a bottle of wine for DH and me!!! )

I'm following your thread with interest, Gloworm. We'll be (fingers crossed) toilet-training ds1 in the summer holidays and need all the inspiration we can get!

yorkiegirl, might try the "no pants" later.

today he has peed in potty 3 times, although he peed on floor a bit before potty was rushed over to him! anyway i guess we're making progress.

still pees on the floor non-stop (or so it seems)

if nothing else at least the kitchen floor is nice and clean (i mean from all the mopping not the peeing!!!)

total refusal to poo in potty...put him in nappy after dinner last night so he could "poo in peace" and not go to bed without pooing!! (needless to say he had a dirty nappy 5mins later)

have been rewarding him afterward today...he gets to flush the toilet (ok, he thinks this is great fun) and gets a piece of biscuit.

any more tips anyone?

how long did it take anyone to get to the stage where he actually gets to the potty on time most of the time?

I'm following this with real interest. On Monday I decided to try ds out in pants to see how he'd manage. He's 25 months (a bit ambitious I know!) In just half a day we had 2 poos and 3 wees in his pants. Needless to say I've given up, and will try again next month I think.

we are taking a step backwards as ds is just not aware that he has to pee until its too late, also he is size of average 3yr old and potty is too small for him to sit on for any length of time, and he has refused to poo for 2 days (even with nappy on in evening).

So we are taking advice from elliot on my "cold turkey" thread and having nappy on most of time. will put him on potty first thing in morning and after meals and maybe around bedtime. also will let him run around in bare botty or with favourite pants for a while in the morning.

we have the whole summer ahead of us...we'll just take it one step at a time for now.

Northener keep posting your progress too (you've made me laugh...at least someone else is in the same boat!)
