Tongue tie divided at 1 week old- now not latching at all. Has anyone been through this and have any thoughts on how long re-learning to bf may take him?

My little bit had his severe tongue tie divided yesterday afternoon at 6 days old. He'd managed a sort of 'compromise latch' on my left nipple previously by using his gums (ouch!) but now can't latch on either side- I actually tried a 'bottle to breast' bottle this afternoon but he can't suckle on that either, he just has no suck understanding at all it seems.
I'm expressing plenty and feeding him using a cup which he does really well- but it gives him food, not comfort, and I'm worried that he'll never snuggle up with me a feed naturally again. Has anyone been through this? I'm hoping to hear what kind of time frame he may learn how to bf again, and whether there's anything I can do to teach him how to suck from me?

Hi, my dd had tongue tie which was sorted out when she was 4 days old (she's now 15 months) but it still made bf really difficult and painful for a few weeks. I found seeing the local bf counsellors at the children's centre really helpful as they recommended different positions to try and just offered general support through what was, frankly, agony. However, although that may sound like a tale of doom and gloom, we kept going and I ended up bf her until 13 months . Really hope it gets better for you both.

Dd2 never consistently bf again after her tt was cut. I kept trying along with expressing until she was 6 weeks then just concentrated on expressing until 12 weeks.

My daughter had her TT snipped at 7 weeks old and we used nipple shields as my nipples were really sore and cracked and she never learned without them again, she only latched twice mid feed but usually she gets frustrated or just gives up. Nearly 6 months old and still using the shields. Try to give her your breast every time after she's had from the cup so she's not too hungry and frustrated maybe she'll eventually latch. Do you have breastfeeding support group in your area? If so give them a visit, it helped me. Good luck!
