Swimming pool temperature

Hi, my baby is 6. 5 months old and we were thinking about joining a swimming pool when he will be almost 8 months old. They said the water temperature will be 27 degrees and air temperature will be 31. Will the pool be warm enough for him or will be need some thermal wetsuit thing?

Oh god that will be freezing! It's cold anyway but the air temp being so high will make it feel worse.

Oh right, do you think it's too cold even if we bought some type of wetsuit? Maybe we shouldn't join

Colder pools are normally best suited for competitive swimmers because they get so warm whilst training. I'd imagine you'd be cold!

If you're thinking of joining I'd ask for a trial pass to see for yourself.

"Find out the pool temperature; it should be at least 32 degrees for babies under three months old or less than 12lbs in weight, 30 degrees if they're older or heavier – you will know if your baby is cold as their finger nails and lips go blue quickly. Warm them using your body temperature."

Our local pool is about 29 degrees. I took DS for lessons from 7mo and he did get cold without the little wetsuit type thing. He will be 2 in June and still wears a uv suit but he loves it. I would say go and see how you get on. If your DS started getting blue lips or shivering then just get him out.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will need to try it out first. It's such a shame if it doesn't work out as the price is 1/3 rd the cost of other pools around

Look at a splashabout warm in one wetsuit. You can always add a wrap over the top too if still a little cold. You can get them fairly cheap off eBay etc if not wanting new.

Definately get a wetsuit. Littlies can't stay in a pool too long anyway - DS started swimming ar 6 months and he would be blue by tbe end of his class.

The pool I go to is quite cold so we use a wetsuit. They also make holding a wet baby easier as they are less slippery
